MBB vs. Purdue

Talk about the game, etc. I'm sitting at home doing math homework and watching the game. Distract me, talk about how small we are, praise Air Canada, and the like.

I'm so sick of Beilein waiting 1 or 2 possessions too long to call a timeout. That and the fact that this is the first game since Duke that he's let Shep play and, wouldn't you know it, he's pretty much been our most productive player.

You don't get an unlimited number of timeouts per half (as Michigan fans, of all people, should know). There's a TV timeout every four minutes. I don't see anything wrong with trying to save the timeouts until late in the game.

You have to know when the most important points in a game are. When Purdue got the lead to 6, that was basically the game. We needed to stop the momentum and keep it within reach. Instead, it's now a 13 point game and those saved timeouts will be worthless. You can't lay a blanket generalization that "its better to save the timeouts" because in some cases it isn't. This game is a perfect example.

I was saying that he should have called a timeout because the game was turning ugly. It's not the first time he's tried to wait for a TV timeout. Sometimes its better to save your timeouts, sometimes not. On the road, with your star ejected and the crowd getting rowdy, the best you can hope for is to just be in the game near the end. You need to be able to dampen the momentum as long as possible to avoid a rout. That's what we got here. He did that against Wisco too. Just because he's won 500 games doesn't mean he's above criticism. There's a reason so many people are upset that he hasn't played Shep for half of the season. He plays small when he doesn't need to because he places too much importance on the three-pt shot. He's a great teacher, but not above criticism.

What is this love affair between the CBS announcers and Purdue and Kramer??? Dude is role player and thats it! Stop treating him like he's freakin Christian Laettner, verbally making love to him!
