Jibreel Black drops Indiana for Cincy

Submitted by jg2112 on
If you've been around here since the summer, you'll remember this guy's name. He is highly regarded and I believe Michigan was in on him. It was surprising he picked Indiana, though his brother goes to school there (e-memory?) Well, that changed today: Defensive lineman Jibreel Black drops Hoosiers for Cincinnati Heavily-recruited three-star defensive end Jibreel Black of Cincinnati, Ohio/Wyoming HS (Wyoming, Ohio), has pledged to the Bearcats after decommitting from Indiana. http://insider.espn.go.com/ncf/recruiting/onthetrail?&action=login&appR…

That blows...kinda hoped his recruiting would re-open! I had a feeling that he was going to switch to Cinci awhile back... * I love it when poeple on this site report you for being annoying when you simply agree with something. Is Mark Dantonio on here doing this???

That title is much better. Brian Kelly won't leave Cincy, I think he is happy there and wants to make it a powerhouse. Now if ND throws millions at him that may change his tune. Me e-pinion is that he'll be in Cincy for a while.

I saw an interview with Kelly earlier this year in which he expressed some dissatisfaction with Cincy. He noted that his contract included promises that the football facilities would have been updated by this fall and that those promises were broken. He complained about the lack of any kind of practice facility, among other things. He made it sound like the school had better get a firm promise to give him what he wants very soon, or he'd be an unhappy camper. Maybe you've seen or heard something different that trumps that. But my impression was that Kelly was starting to make the case that his contract had been breached and that he could be a free agent, so to speak (with no buyout obligations) after this season.

Wait.... an up-and-coming young coach from the Big East, at a 2nd tier football school that is producing big wins and great records in his tenure, complaining that the school isn't giving him the tools needed to be more successful which causes a rift between coach and AD ultimately leading to the coach getting hired by one of the most storied programs in the country. No, never seen or heard something like that before....

I know what you're talking about. He said the same thing on the Scott Van Pelt show, maybe thats where you heard it? Ive heard it a few times. I just perceived it differently. Cincinnati just hired a new president so everything really is speculation right now. I just feel like what he was saying was an ultimatum, saying get this done or this is not the right place for me. I just feel like the new president will get that done. I don't have any evidence to back that up. I just think him so outspoken on if you do not get this I am leaving is more of a way to get things done there than to provide the media with proof for leaving. It is all perspective I guess, you saw what he said as a way to get out and I saw it as a way to get shit done at UC. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=988486 ... just about every answer he has in this Q&A says the way we get better is by facilities, we keep winning we get facilities, facilities are #1. If he gets those then he will stay, if not then he bounces. He can build a powerhouse at Cincy instead of continuing one at ND or wherever. I don't know I may be wrong but I see him staying through his contract. It's wild how much he talks facilities.

You're right -- our difference of opinion is probably just a difference of interpretation about the meaning of Kelly's agitation for better facilities. For what it's worth, I was on a tour of Cincinnati's campus this spring with my son's AAU basketball team (it's just a middle school team). As you can imagine, we got a sport-focused tour and were taken into the stadium and given a chance to run around the field. I noticed a couple of interesting things. First, it seems like there's very little room to expand to build an indoor or outdoor facility on the campus itself. Obviously, I did not see everything, but the place looks cramped, generally. I'm sure something can be done, but I would not be surprised if there were some big logistical problems in doing it. Second, I can't imagine how they could really expand the stadium. It's in the middle of campus and tucked between several other buildings. I think Cincy is stuck with that stadium as it is for a while, and I'm not sure you can really have a big-time program with a stadium that seats less than 50K. That might have a bearing on Kelly's willingness to stay, as well.

I completely agree on the stadium. It appears they are screwed. Maybe they can do what UM did and dig down to add some seating. Maybe fit some luxury boxes somewhere. 35,000 is not enough for a big time program. Another problem they are going to have is that you have 108,000 going to OSU every Saturday to watch them play, not including the tailgaters and all the people that would rather watch OSU on TV if they have to. If they could get the stadium to around, I dunno, 60 65,000. That would be a huge start. I've been to UC a couple times and to the untrained eye there is definitely some logistical issues with the stadium. Supposedly they are in the process of building a 100yd. practice field and a 50 yd. practice field near the stadium with the 100yd field being covered by a bubble for the winter. It's supposed to be called the Jefferson Ave. Sports Complex or something. I really do think he will stay and I hope Im right because ND is the next best guess for him.

and can turn the program into a perennial powerhouse, and get some of the recruits that would goto osu would really be a good thing. for years, osu has had their picks of recruits in a fertile ground for high school football, id like to see an in-state school come in and challenge that.
