GameDay Parking

Submitted by aenima0311 on

We're going to the game tomorrow, but have to get home quickly afterwards. As someone who has spent waaaay too much time parked on Main St, does anyone have tips on lots to park in that aren't egregously far away, but have quick-ish access to the highway to get home?

Thanks

Park on the south end of Main St. south side of Scio Church Rd. There is a little plaza, a church down there. A few other parking options. Close to I-94. It is a 15-20 minute walk, but I always park down there when I need out ASAP

I've parked there before, but couldn't remember exactly where. Usually I don't have to drive and therefore don't really have to think about it.

This is exactly what I'm going to do.

Follow-up: How much hell will it be getting down Main at around 10am? Can I avoid that by coming in via 94?

I've tailgated there dozens of times; it's now my backup plan whenever I need easy in/easy out or when the golf courses close due to adverse weather. (I usually tailgate @AAGO) Your description matches exactly with Lindy's. Nice and grassy (never muddy) and full of shade trees, it's only about 1000 feet west off Main, on the south side of Scio Church Rd. Though they park the cars pretty close together, always plenty of room for tossing the football or frisbee or cornholing. Nice people who run the lot, too.

Get there early. Park low and toward the exit.

If you leave right at the end of the game (it's a half a mile walk there) you will not spend much time at all in traffic coming north up Main.

Seems like it shouldn't work but it does.

Instead of starting a new thread, I'll ask here. This is my first year as a season ticket holder, and I bought a season pass to park at Fingerle. Does anyone have parking / tailgating tips for there. I would normally tailgate, but I sold my second ticket and don't want to look like a complete loner.

Personally I wouldn't think you look like a loner if I saw you at fingerle. I'd either A) not notice you were alone or B) not care, but I'd definitely be glad to play catch or drink a beer together and I think most others would feel the same. Just think about it....we're all so excited about the game, especially the FIRST game, there isn't time to do anything but have fun and enjoy our 109,901-person family. I say go for it

What I tend to do is park near 7th st and Scio Church road.  I then take Scio Church road out to Zeeb, and then North on Zeeb to 94.  I am heading West though, not sure where you are trying to get back to.

I always post the same general idea in these threads:

Ann Arbor is a small city of 100K. It's not very big. You should *never* wait in a line of cars. It almost always makes sense to go around the congestion. deejaydan's route is a good example if you're headed west.

If it's near game time, I'd avoid I-94 between Jackson road and US-23, South Main, and South State Street.

Use the Park & Party for the bowling alley just off campus...you can zip out of town without getting on Main St...I did it last year for the NW game...

Park near Allmendinger Park. There are lots on Potter Ave and Hutchins. By lots I mean people's yards. Much cheaper and a lot easier than the golf course for getting in and out. Quick 5-10 minute walk to the stadium too

i apologize for posting here, as I dont have enough points to start a new thread.  in town with the littles ones (3 and 5), my parents and inlaws.  we are staying at the bell tower.  the plan is to head to the jug aroud 8 (kids are up anyways) for some beer and eggs, maybe swing by dominicks, and then the walk to the stadium.  does anyone know if there are any tailgates on the golf course that we could possibly join? i remember seeing an alumni tailgate a few years back, but that might have been a homecoming game.  any other suggestions for early morning pre game fun? we could buy a case for the adults and some snacks for the kids and just hang out on the golf course.  just not sure how i feel about that.  i do think that a green grass field migh be a bit better suited for the young ones than the jug.  but i want my fun as well.

Try the garage at south Forest and Willard. I used to live there are walk from my apartment. It's not good for tailgating but I imagine it's a lot easier to leave from there than it is from main or state street. You can get to 23 from Washtenaw or 14 via Plymouth on north campus.
