Former M commit Denzel Ward decommits from Purdue

Any chance Michigan gets him (or has room for him)?

Denzel Ward @DWard75_ 4m

Just decommitted from Purdue University, I appreciate Coach Hazell and what his staff has done for me it has meant a great deal. Best Wishes

One time top safety from Indiana HS who decided for Michigan in 2006, then Indiana in 2007, then joined Urban in Florida in 2007, washed out there, then ended up at Indiana again in 2008, played special teams mostly in 2009, and then left IU for nowhere in particular in 2010.

GOOD RIDDANCE!

Now that he's played his senior year (I assume)...is he even any good?! If he was raw a year ago when he committed...that's one thing, but he's had a whole summer and a senior season. Shouldn't he be a little less raw...a little more, cooked? Not saying we should rerecruit him, because we shouldn't...just interested in if he's even any good. Sounds like a kid that will either end up at Ole Miss before washing out, or randomly at Western Michigan and we'll plat him in 4 years and all go "haha! I remember him!"

Coaches always take flyers on raw prospects. There was just a post or entry about RJS and someone else, can't think of the name being raw. Gardner and Denard were raw. Coaching has a great deal about the 'rawness' of the prospect.

He seems to be on a Kozan Vision Quest

From a fanpost on Hammer and Rails entitled "Ouch, this really hurts":

"He seemed like a solid verbal several months ago when he referred to Etling as his brother and that we gotta do a better job protecting him. He also said Hazell wanted him to be the one coordinating all the incoming recruits. "

If the Hazell comment is true, that really must hurt.

I tend to feel sorry for kids like this. Either he's getting some terrible advice from people close to him or he has personal issues leading to bad decisions. Either way, I hope someone gets a hold of him soon and straightens him out. Kids like that can write their own ticket if they want it bad enough.

As far as re-recruiting him again, I strongly doubt Hoke and Co. would. He doesn't seem to be a prospect Michigan needs bad enough at the position nor is he too good to pass up regardless. Hoke will stay away.
