ESPN Tournament Challenge - Final Four Update

Submitted by Saint_in_Blue on

So here we are at the Final Four. Villanova, Oklahoma, North Carolina, and Syracuse(!?). There's one team every year that benefits from upsets to get an easy path and this year it's Syracuse. Raise your hand if you picked Syracuse to be in the Final Four.....<crickets>.

Anyways, as far as points and rankings in the MGoBlog group here is where the top 5 stands:

Rank - Bracket - Champion - PPR** - Total - PCT

1 - Ovaltine Jenkins - UNC - 640 - 920 - 99.8

2 - The Big Prince - Oklahoma - 480 - 890 - 99.5

3* - Angry Midget - UNC - 640 - 880 - 99.3

3* - Death to Drupal - UVA - 160 - 880 - 99.3

5* - smallfrey03 1 - UNC - 640 - 860 - 98.6

5* - ROLLLLLL TIIIIIIIDE - Kansas - 0 - 860 - 98.6

5* - ancisler 1 - Kansas - 0 - 860 - 98.6

* - tie breaker used

** - Possible Points Remaining

Lots of room for change at the top since many people picked Kansas and Michigan State to win the title. Roll Tide and Ancisler are in trouble since they do not have any possible points remaining. I'm just happy I'm on the first page and in contention for a top 10 finish!

We had 725 entries this year, up from 643 a year ago! Good luck to everyone that still has a shot at claiming a top spot and thank you to everyone that played along! I look forward to doing this again next year!

single handedly eliminates my interest in the Final Four.  I cannot stand their coach and they play an ugly game of basketball.  And they play a conference team that they played twice already, in the night cap?  Uhhg.

I will probably watch a half of the Oklahoma game to see Hield but this Final Four is most certainly not appointment watching for me.

My office has a rule that you must pick your alma mater to win in one of your brackets. One of the partners is a Syracuse fan. His bracket is mediocre (he's in the bottom half of the standings), but Syracuse is keeping him mathematically alive.

I am still trying to figure out what "PCT" is a percentage of.  Obviously, 920 points is not 99.8% of a possible 1280 so far.  Also, the top 68 on the website are listed at 100%.  In other words, I am perplexed.  I can't find any info on the site about what it means, either.

I was tired for 6th before yesterday's games. Now 60+ I think. Only have 2 of the final four left and they face each other. So my hopes lie in a Nova championship.

At best, I can come in a very respectable 36th, as there are 35 UNC picks ahead of me.  There are also 2 UNC picks tied with me that also have more possible points remaining than me from an Oklahoma win over Villanova.

Not too bad.  Currently in the 81.4th percentile.

My son wrapped up the pool he's in yesterday when Syracuse knocked out Virgiania. He has Oklahoma and UNC left, but picked Sparty to win it all. He hated doing that, but usually gets burned because they always end up going farther than he picks them to. He made his points in the first round by picking quite a few upsets correctly and in his pool you get the seed number as bonus points in each round. I think he was 27-5 in the first round. He has more points than anyone else's best possible out of 45 entries.

You know, considering how the first two rounds went for some people, and then of course some of the further topsy-turvy games in later rounds, there really should be some sort of extra prize simply for surviving this long during this particular bracket challenge. If nothing else, a plaque in the form of a merely singed bracket might be appropriate.
