The End of the Spinner?
Despite constant speculation from the MGoBoard experts, there actually is no Spinner. According to GERG, there is no fancy name for the position.
"There’s not much hybrid about the linebacker-safety position Stevie Brown will play this year. Robinson said he doesn’t call the position “spinner” or anything else. “He’s our SAM,” or strong-side linebacker, Robinson said."
Can't say that I'm disappointed, Spinner doesn't sound like a football term anyway.

Spinner makes me think of spinnerbait ..which i have caught many bass with .. and use to use out on Lake Erie for Walleye but have since found better bait for.
But it did make it easier to remember .. SB SpinnerBait ..SB StevieBrown SB SamBacker
what is this new, better bait you speak of? I need to know, because we had a bad year for walleye.
I dont think anybody is having good years anymore .. it has come to the point i just hope for a good DAY ... and those seem to get worse every year.
We have best luck with Worm Harness's (which are spinners) ..and spoons .. but it will never be like it was in early 90s when i was a kid and we would have our limit by 11pm.
Im starting to like Perch fishing better .. it has fun in it.. Walleye fishing has become a job.

Damn .. i can't even give a fellow fan a fishing tip without getting a -1 ... Dammit you guys are ruthless during off-season !

Maybe it's because you have three out of the first four posts on this thread? I didn't neg you for that, but easy on the reply button.

how that would get him negged. It's not like he was posting sentences one word at a time to boost his points or something. If you've got something to say, you're allowed to say it.

Again, I did no negging, but three out of four posts by the same person and all three posts were not talking about the football position and instead discussing fishing could have tipped it for someone. The comments weren't moronic so I have no issue with them.

Yeah, I understand what you're saying. During the season I'm going to appreciate those people I think. Hopefully things don't get out of control when we've got actual football stuff to talk about.

make plans for Saginaw Bay next year. May and June were absolutely out of hand, especially out of Au Gres.

It makes me think of old people playing that dominoes-like game.

the name this position tends to go by in these types of defenses, doesn't mean we can't call him the spinner, we can really call him anything that starts with "s" to signify he's the "strong" side (lines up to the strength of the offense's formation)LB. i'm sure if he has a bad game and isn't tackling worth a damn, i'll be calling him "shithead" by the end of the game and if it were to continue throughout the season that would get shortened to just plain "shit"

so the spinner position is dead before I even had a chance to see it? I wanted to see Taz out on the field.

But IIRC a "spinner" is a term used to describe a certain type of well-endowed female co-ed that has a specific and unique set of physical abilities that often leaves you dizzy with amazement.
And nowhere in that description does Stevie Brown come to mind.

Spinner always sounded like something you would find on an adult website or some rated x movie.

Spinner used to hang out with Paddlefoot if i remember correctly.

But I noticed your avatar and wondered, do they play Peter Fox music in the States?
August 9th, 2009 at 11:51 PM ^
Not sure who Peter Fox is, but i'm sure he would enjoy a spinner. So I guess your post is relevant.

It's always tough to admit that you don't know something, but here goes. I keep seeing Coach Robinson referred to as GERG. Since I'm fairly new to board and haven't seen this elsewhere, how did this come about?

can be found here. Brian linked to it during the DC search.

I thank you for the effort in trying to educate me, but the page you've linked has an error in the text portion of it. If anyone would care to explain the ledgend, that would be great. If not, trust me I can live with the disappointment.

I somehow inserted a quotation to the end of the url. Try this one:
