Desmond Howard Unleashes Hell
I was shocked to read this. Coming from a former Heisman winner, that's just nasty. And He was angry about the Les Miles situation?

He's dead to me now.

I suspect his boner for Les Miles endures, and his disdainful feelings towards RichRod have resurfaced as a result of the frustrating season. He's just venting, albeit on a Columbus radio show with two former players for the other team who have made their allegiances clear. That makes me lose some respect for him, but he's still very much alive to me, although I suspect he's alive to you too and you're just being sarcastic.

Touchdown.

Unleashes Hell? I've read all of those quotes before, and I didn't think they were bad the first time and I don't think they were bad this time either. Again, they were taken out of context, and saying that he'll be gone if "he has another year like this one" is probably true. That doesn't mean he thinks it will happen.
Desmond has always been outspoken, this is no different. He has nothing by love for UM.

Go to wtka's website... They have a couple segments in the podcast section from today with Desmond and he explains most of the quotes. They were out of context...
You also get a better feeling for his views on the coaching and where the program is heading in his mind...

but this reminds me of that scene in the Godfather where Michael and Moe Greene are negotiating and Fredo takes sides with Moe Greene. Not that Desmond is really in any way like Fredo--he's far from weak and stupid, and if he's like any character from the Godfather that character would be Johnny Fontaine--but someone, I nominate Lloyd, needs to tell him privately never to take sides against the family again.

I was going to reply saying "Desmond, you're a Michigan Man, and I love you. But don't ever take sides with anyone against the team again, Ever. Understand?"

I think Lloyd has the perfect calm yet dangerous way of speaking to match that of Michael Corleone. He should deliver that exact message to Desmond.

Has to be Fredo in Godfather II, then. "I knew it was you, Jim. I knew it was you. And it breaks my heart."

Yes, Desmond explains himself here (and while you're there you can listen to a few recruiting round-ups)

Desmond or Mike Hart might revoke your "Michigan Man" status.
November 20th, 2008 at 12:05 AM ^
Is Mike Hart a fair comparison to Sonny, a confident guy who wears his heart on his sleeve and backs up his words by beating up his little brother (or brother-in-law)? God I just hope this comparison is erroneous and he doesn't get shot.

The quotes in the linked article are taken out of context. I was linked to the full article earlier today and when you read the ENTIRE article, it comes off as a reasonable assessment of the situation. He had a quote something along the lines of "if they win 6 games this year, RR should be up for Big Ten coach of the year." His sentiment was from watching the team in the spring.
His take was generally positive towards RR, but frustrated with the season.

I got the same impression. So basically Desmond has the some feeling that most of us have, see mjv's last sentence.

MGOBLUE has audio with Desmond Howard and he explains how his statements were lost in translation-imagine that.

was on a michigan sports radio talk show and says he like RR and thinks if they give him time they will win and be in the NC in 5 yrs. he believes in wat RR is doing.
