Clay's 50yd run
I've seen some pretty bizarre plays from Mich's D this year, but Kovacs leaving the hole to tackle a TE blocking Ezeh and taking both out is one of the strangest things I have seen. If anybody saw this and has a plausible explanation I would love to hear it. If you are going to look it up it is the 1st and 20 on around Wiscys 20 in the 3rd qtr and Clay goes off tackle untouched for 40-50yds. Simply one of the most bizarre things I have seen on a field. The best I could come up with is the key he was reading made it seem a pass to him and he thought he was beat so he grabbed the te.

I wish I did, though. Anybody have a link for a highlight on youtube or anything?

I'm glad someone else caught that because he literally ran himself out of the play, and let a run of a couple yards become a huge gain.

yeah i saw that too and was scratching my head as to what the hell Kovacs was doing. After seeing this defense play (outside of the front 3-4) im not surprised.

It's amazing we can have the front 3-4 guys look good and the other 7 look like a fire drill.

...when everyone learns the defense and it all becomes instinctive these mistakes will stop. I thought they were better overall today for much of the game. It would be nice to make a big leap forward for next week.
Go out with a big bang.

When trying to figure out how this run happened, I slowed my DVR down to a few frames a second. Kovacs literally took the the TE and grappled with him like he was trying to tackle him, turning his back to the ball carrier. I have never seen a play like that (and with this D, that's saying something).
Perhaps it's some weird version of when the NT holds a blocker to allow a LB to fill the gap and tackle the RB. Of course, having your safety do this move would be functionally insane unless we are now playing a super-duper safety behind him, but that's all I got. Crazy.
Also, we also had 9 men in the box on this play, so it's not like the run caught us by surprise. Just looked like a bunch of people wandering around bumping into each other. I've seen chickens with their heads cut off move with more purposeful direction.

I watched that over and over trying to see how that happened.
