All Michigan Fans in Gainesville (UF)

Submitted by UMGooch on

Calling all University of Florida graduate students, or any other Michigan fans trapped in the heart of Gator Nation (I know you're out there):

Where are you watching the UM-ND game this Saturday? Any good non-Gator'd-out bars? I was going to try to find one it on TV at one of the midtown bars, but I almost guarantee I won't be able to hear it over the Gators game going on simultaneously which will be blaring at all UF bars... Oh, and I don't have cable TV, so that's out.

Side note: Despite having many recent successes in sporting events, the UF student body seems to have meek showings to sporting events when compared to Michigan. They have a bigger student body and smaller stadium, but the demand for student tickets is much smaller compared to Michigan. You make me proud, Blue.

You will be able to get them to turn it on at Ale House and maybe Gator's Dockside but both places will have the speaker system playing the UF game.  If I go to the UF game at all it will be for maybe the 1st quarter.  I don't miss any UM game just because I have tickets to the UF game.

I am going to watch the game at home because I hate going to bars to watch games.  If you can get local channels I believe the game will be on ABC.

What are you studying?

Way to waste mine, and anyone who doesn't live in the 173rd largest market in America's, time about what you are doing this Saturday! I will be in Cleveland this weekend for a few games, should I ask everyone what they are doing?

I wasn't aware that there was such a huge difference in academic quality between undergrad and graduate studies in the same school, but I guess there was no other way you could satisfy the need to make a dig at my gf's academic background without insulting your own choice to go there. that's the michigan difference, i guess. besides, i don't really characterize the students who decide to pay out the asshole for shitty lib arts degrees as "brilliant" nor are their degrees "prestigious" but that's just my take... i figure the fact she never spent a single dollar on tuition and essentially was paid to go to school and graduate without any student loans was "brilliant" enough.

and fuck yeah she's bangin.

I graduated last year from grad school at UF and even though the place is an absolute hole - you may want to think about Beef O Brady's - at least they have multiple tvs and should be showing more than just the UF game - though UF will dominate most of the TVs.

Haha, I think I'm still in the "oh my God, college round 2, there's so many girls" phase. I don't hate Gainesville quite yet.

I was thinking of checking that place out. The Beef's in my last city had a small flatscreen in every booth that you could change the channel. I'm hoping Gainesville's location is that way too. Thanks for the tip!

is the place I would go to.  The good things is the Wolverines always played at different times than UF so I'd just be posted up there with a friend and loaded nachos enjoying the game without any distractions.  I'd also watch us get our heart ripped out by MSU and Wisky shitkicking us with tears running down my face in the middle of a half-empty restaurant, but that's another story.

I would also recommend checking out the The Woodlands apartment complex and see if their big screen is available at game time.  As long as the UF game isn't on, you should be clear of the residents.  It's pretty fucking sweet and it's got all the cable channels.

They are the most fair weather college football fans in the country. I was chatting up a Gator recently about Coach Mattison and he had no idea who I was talking about. They completely forget about their team once they lose just a bit. Greatest recent memory of a game is when we beat them at the Capital One Bowl.

So true from what I seen. I am just gonna be honest, Ann Arbor's football atmosphere trumps anything I have seen in Florida so far. Some of these people don't even know who their starting qb is let alone who their coach is. Its somewhat laughable but maybe it is just the people I met since moving here..... But I doubt it!

dude every school has their fairweather fans, michigan included. remember a couple years ago when the majority of michigan stadium was red because we sucked and everyone sold their tickets? but i lived in gainesville for a while and what i saw every saturday during football season was pretty fuckin insane. and the gf had season tickets for 5 years and didn't miss a single home game, even when zook was coaching, and still decks her car out in gator shit and wears gator shirts and these stupid ass buttons every saturday. if you haven't been there for a while just wait until uf plays another major sec team, none of this bullshit fau, uab shit and go walk around campus and university ave.... insane

Nice to see another Gainesville Wolverine on the board. I'm out of town this weekend, but usually I end up watching the game online or giving up and wearing my Michigan gear to the UF game. We tried to catch a game at The Swamp (restaurant) once, but they only played SEC games.
