Rittenberg's Latest Big Ten Bowl Projections

Submitted by MGoShoe on

Adam Rittenberg, ESPN.com's Big Ten blogger has posted his latest Big Ten bowl projections.  After the loss to Iowa, he has Michigan in the Insight Bowl which is played in Sun Devil Stadium on Dec 28.  That's less interesting to me than his prediction for who'll end up as the Big Ten champion and Rose Bowl representative (not MSU or OSU).

Rose Bowl

 Iowa vs. BCS team

Fiesta/Sugar/Orange Bowl

 Michigan State vs. BCS team

Capital One

 Ohio State vs. SEC team

Outback

 Wisconsin vs. SEC team

Gator

 Illinois vs. SEC team

Insight Bowl

 Michigan vs. Big 12 team

Texas Bowl

 Northwestern vs. Big 12 team

Dallas Football Classic

Penn State vs. Big 12 team

Little Caesars Pizza Bowl

 Purdue vs. MAC team

I figure we're still good for the Gator Bowl as I think we'll defeat PSU, Illinois and Purdue to finish the regular season at 8-4.

Michigan playing them in a bowl would be the perfect solution to shuting some mouths up that are dissing your team. Then again Florida is awful so getting that respect might not be that easy.

After yesterday's display against Wisconsin - I think this year might be the year when we finally beat Tyrelle/Tressel.

What a way it will be to close the season out on a high!!! It will be the signature win for RR this year to silence all his critics.

My projection for this year is 9-3 with our loss coming to Wisky and we heading to the Outback Bowl.

Again I could be wrong - but hey its a good dream to dream.

Wins over Illinois, Penn State, and Purdue, though I'd still say all three games are much, much closer to "toss-up" than "should win comfortably".

Michigan is built to beat teams with inexperienced qb's that struggle to run the ball.  Not facing Cousins, Stanzi, Tolzien, etc helps a lot.  That's why I think we can outscore Illinois (their offense will make enough mistakes that we can take advantage of) and Penn State(ditto).  Even though both have strong defenses, we were able to impose our will on Iowa and should do the same with those teams.

Purdue looks a LOT stronger after the past two weeks.  Rob Henry can cause some problems for this defense.  I think it will be a lot like the Indiana game, so hopefully Michigan can outscore them.

Wisconsin looks a lot like Iowa and msu. Loss.  OSU has enough talent at the non-Pryor positions to simply dominate us.

I will say this: If we can simply put together 60 minutes of mistake-free football we can beat OSU.  But we won't.  Particularly in the second half, I expect the Buckeye defense to bring out some bad plays in our qb's, and a couple of big runs by Herron will put the game away.

8-4 and we should face a weaker SEC team(Florida?) in the Gator Bowl
