Derrick Bryant - 2010 OH DE
Looks like U-M is in good shape with 2010 DE Derrick Bryant:

I have a healthy dose of skepticism for all potential commitments, particularly out of state. At the very least, Tall seems to be doing a good job in Ohio.

Bryant is on Rivals Top 250 Watch list, so he looks to be a highly regarded prospect. Defensive End will still be a key need for the '10 class, as I expect us to go for another SDE and a WDE. Bryant is a SDE according to Rivals; not sure if William Gholston is a SDE or WDE. A very long way to go though. The class 2010 looks to be very promising with Miller, Jackson, and most likely Marvin Robinson and Lo Wood in the fold.

Melvin Fellows comes to mind. Was an early commit to Illinois this year, then Tressel snake oils him away pretty easily.
Buckeye nation should jump on him early, and along w/ being at tOSU's camp in June, it's hard to imagine Bryant ending up anywhere else.

Why do you say that? Just because he's from Ohio? Michigan get's some pretty good Ohio talent, you know.
Keep in mind OSU's only 2 verbals for 2010 so far are both DE's. That might play into his decision as well.

Rivals lists J.T. Moore and Jamel Turner as WDE. Darryl Baldwin and Derrick Bryant are SDE. All four are OH kids; could it possible for all of them to commit to OSU?

...Newsome and Fellows from 09. Lot of DEs there.

Oh I certainly think it's possible. I just think saying "I can't see him going anywhere else" is way too far.
January 15th, 2009 at 5:15 PM ^
way too far? you're right, but it's how I see it.
where will he commit? i don't know the kid. My opinion was based on the fact that he plays in the CPS of all places and that Tressel does extremely well w/ in-state prospects when it comes to early offers.
if he had an osu offer at this point i'd feel otherwise. (i'm assuming he'll get an offer)

I feel violated.

Charles Woodson and Desmond Howard came from Ohio. So it isn't like we can't poach a player or two...Hell, JT is from Ohio. So don't say that all the top talent stays there.
January 15th, 2009 at 5:27 PM ^
man i agree with you completely.
i just like to wait for a top level undecided talent to HAVE AN OSU OFFER FIRST before i start guessing where he goes.
(in risk of sounding like a tool here), but I lived in Ohio and have a family connection to one of OSU's current commits. you know he really was interested in a couple of schools, like michigan. but when ohio state offered he couldn't resist. not all ohio players are like that, but i don't assume anything until i have proof that they're not holding out for an osu offer like Fellows and this kid did.

Gholston is a SDE.
January 15th, 2009 at 3:39 PM ^
And not coming to Michigan.
January 15th, 2009 at 4:09 PM ^
You just ruined my day with that one. lol...We don't have a shot at the guy?
January 15th, 2009 at 5:15 PM ^
aw hell, why not? i thought he grew up a U of M fan. are we being lied to ?
January 15th, 2009 at 5:24 PM ^
Not sure where you heard he grew up a UM fan.
Gholston's a Spartan.
January 15th, 2009 at 5:26 PM ^
i thought we were still talking about bryant.
January 15th, 2009 at 4:12 PM ^
when you are 16 or 17 and your parents want you to go to UM, it's going to be tough for him to say no. I can't see any argument that would prove to his parents that a place like OSU would be a better fit.
January 15th, 2009 at 4:21 PM ^
...MSU is the presumed competition, not OSU. If you're talking about Bryant, he's from Columbus, so I'm sure his parents wouldn't mind him being close to home.
January 15th, 2009 at 4:22 PM ^
If you're talking Jeremy Jackson, I agree with you. Totally.
January 15th, 2009 at 4:22 PM ^
since we have almost no chance at Gholston, I wouldn't mind a "trade" of sorts with Gholston going to OSU and Bryant coming up to Michigan.
