OT - Where would you want to live?

Submitted by NYC Fan3 on

I've always valued insights from members on this board and am interested in hearing about cities members prefer to live in.

Let's say you are given a promotion at work and your company is willing to pay all moving expenses and adjust your cost of living to any city in the United States.  Where are you moving to and why?

I live outside of London and its alright. England is very centralised around London. Public transport is decent and it is very diverse. People are good, but the only negatives are lots of negative people (glass is always half empty), cold / wet weather sometimes, and British people just throw their trash down anywhere and expect someone else to pick it up. My vote is Roanoke VA. All 4 Seasons, very good people and there is always something to do outdoors.

But I feel like they also kind of depend on where I am at in my life. In my current spot: I want to live in Austin or Nashville. Both excellent Southern cities for a twenty-something like myself (and outside of where I have always lived: Michigan)

If I were older and starting a family, I would want to raise my kids in Ann Arbor. I was lucky enough to grow up there and would hope to provide a similar experience to what my parents gave me.

San Diego always sticks out though, weather is damn near perfect, vibrant city. I would move there in a heartbeat.

overrated city on the face of the Earth.  We have lived here for over six years now and can't wait to move back to Northern Virginia.  I have never experienced such sanctimonious group-thinking, forced conformity, image seeking assholes in my life.  Literally a donut of hypocrisy surrounded by redneck hillbilly ignorance and self rightousness.  Nashvillians will smile at you and say "bless your heart" while they do the reach-around knife in the back.  Horrible, awful experience for my kids, and I can't stress that enough.  The women are the worst.  A bunch of SEC educated soroity sister bitches.  Our life has been miserable here.  And we are conservative, church going, concealed carrying proud Americans.  And now the Californians are moving in.  There are assholes everywhere.  I just prefer them to be so to my face.  So, since the wife wants to move back home, we're going back to the DC suburbs.  It is better there and in Comcast's BTN footprint, which is another negative to Nashville.

Go Jets!

I would very much like to live in a large private house in florida, if possible. But I only recently moved to connecticut. The move was not very difficult, as I used the services of long distance movers. It's nice and quiet enough, even though my friends have warned me about the bad neighborhoods. So far, everything is quiet and I'm happy.
