Last week seemed especially bad - sounds awful on TV (can't imagine in the stadium) and none of the songs seem to get anyone pumped up or excited in any way. The songs are terrible! I'd rather just hear the band or nothing I guess. I wish Michigan stadium was louder but I know some of that has to do with shape, etc. As I'm in SEC country - the difference in crowd noise and hype is very extreme...

I'm fine with some piped-in music but the ratio isn't good right now.

There's a few things they do that really bother me:

  • Play piped-in music right into (and partially through) the kick off. I like the waiving of hats/fingers and "ohhhhhhh" thing that now gets washed out.
  • Failure to recognize what songs "work" and what songs "don't work." - Some songs aren't good pump up songs for stadiums. Stop playing those.
  • Staleness - For some reason there's some songs that have gotten really repetetive and now just very "blah" to me (and probably many others). Back in Black, Thunderstruck, among others.

I'm fine with Mr. Brightside - I actually thought it was cool when the students section kept singing it against Cincinnati. Doesn't work as well when you're barely up against Air Force though...

Everyone has their own opinion about music and it's diverse over the entire fanbase. I think more MMB and being more careful selection of appropriate songs, at appropriate times, would be significant progress.

One exception for general piped-in music ennui:

Can we PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE pipe in Freekbass' "We Are Notre Dame" to troll the Irish when we host them in 2019?!?!?
