Fall Camp Notes: QB Battle is Real

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on

Steve Lorenz of 247 is reporting that...

The quarterback battle "is real" and is "far more intense than last year".

He has some other fall camp tidbits, but the article is paywalled, so I won't mention them here. Needless to say, though, I'm very surprised by this development. Hopefully this means that Peters is performing above expectations, rather than that Speight is regressing or plateauing.

but to do so he must have his feet firmly planted, and use his lower body and a fairly long arm motion. It is always preferable to have your feet set and use your lower body but circumstances don't always permit that. It also means that sometimes Wilton must release the ball a fractional second sooner. Peters stronger arm is a significant advantage. He can flick it faster and quicker. The fractional second advantage can be the difference between a completion and an interception.

Morris had a strong arm as well but it appears that Peters is more accurate based on HS and limited evidence from practices. Wilton has a big leg up for all of the reasons stated here but unless he is an early NFL entry candidate, which I think is unlikely, then this year's decision is really a 2 year decision because all of Wilton's experience advantages will only increase, so a year from now- making a change would be far more difficult unless he and the team have a bad year which would be awful.

I hope the chatter is accurate, that Peters is that good and that ready, but I can't blame anyone for seeing it the other way.
