OT: Art Briles is a Scumbag

Submitted by RakeFight on

Seems that Art has no problem using a rape victim to leverage some more money out of Baylor... promising to show up to a deposition and offer an apology and support for her, and then not showing up after he reached a settlement with Baylor the next day.

Highlight: "[Briles] used the threat of helping Jasmin in her lawsuit against Baylor as leverage to negotiate his wrongful termination claim against Baylor," Zalkin said. "He doesn't care about victims. He never cared about victims. He's using victims. He used them to help build up his football program, and now he's using Jasmin to leverage more money out of Baylor."

Pat Haden doesn't want us to forget to include him on the list.

While not quite on the same level of overall "scumbagginess" as Briles, Haden apparently has ( for over 15 years) been dipping into a foundation that was set up in the late 40's to benefit deserving low-income students with academic scholarships.

Proving himself just as greedy as any other scumbag, Haden collected $1.2 million in fees from the Mayr Foundation while his sister-in-law  'earned' over $750,000 and his daughter raked in $470,000 between 1999 and 2014, the last year that the LA Times was able to put together complete documentation (although the flow of $$$ didn't stop until Haden, feeling the heat of the investigation, very recently stepped down as chairman).

Not only have the 3 of them claimed a total of over $2.4 million for doing little actual work  for those 15 years,  but Haden also funneled $1.76 million to USC over that same time period, most of which went to the USC Athletic Department.  The $$$ flowing to USC dwarfs what any other educational institution received over those 15 years----USC received nearly 4 times as much as the next highest recipient.

My grandpa used to say of acts by deplorable men like this- "The chickens will come home to roost." What concerns me even more is that he used to be a high school coach. Who knows what he's gotten away with to this point.

PS: Selling an authentic Desmond Howard jersey on eBay. Bidding is at $30 right now (!). Don't snooze on it.

I know these kind of things can cost college football or sports in general millions from fans that are on the fence and people thinking about following along. I know personally that all this crap from Joe Pa to this Pat Haden thing (I had never heard of till this morning) leaves a bad taste in my mouth and causes me to wonder when I am defending my love for college football over pro football or Nascar and others.
