OT: Art Briles is a Scumbag

Submitted by RakeFight on

Seems that Art has no problem using a rape victim to leverage some more money out of Baylor... promising to show up to a deposition and offer an apology and support for her, and then not showing up after he reached a settlement with Baylor the next day.

Highlight: "[Briles] used the threat of helping Jasmin in her lawsuit against Baylor as leverage to negotiate his wrongful termination claim against Baylor," Zalkin said. "He doesn't care about victims. He never cared about victims. He's using victims. He used them to help build up his football program, and now he's using Jasmin to leverage more money out of Baylor."

It would have been in really poor taste for him to have shown up to that hearing.

He's a real douche canoe. I hope he gets Tressel'd.

You will never confuse me for a fan of Cheaty McSweatervest, but as far as I can recall, his vice was paying players, and acting like he was a pious man while doing so.

I dont recall the Bucks in trouble for rapes being covered up. So while I agree that Tres is a douche, it would seem Briles took it to the proverbial "next level".

I've seen other people suggest he jump to the NFL. What NFL team would want him, even without his rape scandal? His offense at Baylor is pretty far off of what NFL teams run, and seems to take a far amount of flack as the exact kind of offense that leaves its players woefully unprepared to play at the pro level.

Not to mention, as bad as they are at actually dealing with it, the NFL definitely has a PR problem of its own that it's trying to manage regarding violence against women. Briles' involvement in the Baylor rape scandal absolutely is baggage the NFL doesn't want to deal with.

I think scumbag is much nicer than the terms he should be called. I think he should be held liable for every rape that occurred under his reign of terror. This guy should be locked up.

Disgusting if he showed up given what he allowed to happen. Disgusting the way the school has handled it. Disgusting what he did. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck. The whole situation is disgusting.

When you think Baylor fans cannot sink any lower, they prove you wrong once again...

Look at this winner on Baylor Fan's site on this topic:

That's it. No one else owes her anything IMO.

And they are talking about a girl who got dragged away by the football player and raped.

Football fans are the worst...

At this point, I am pretty sure that Art Briles and really the entirety of Baylor's athletic department has blown away the field for the Fickle Finger Of Fate award, so here you go, Coach Briles and company, for your unwavering ability to be tone deaf, defiant, even smugly vindictive and calculatingly cold in the face of the suffering you have caused to others.

no way. this guy is branded right now and any institution would face way too much back lash if they hired him. maybe in 3 or 4 years after this has cooled and the next big scandal is all over the news, but not anytime soon.

I still find this whole sordid story hard to fathom and very disappointing. Briles should be motivated by shame to do the right things where he can. This ugly shit seems to add insult to injury from where I'm sitting.

Whilst I agree Briles may be scum, there is nothing in this that is surprising. No doubt his settlement with Baylor has a gag order. And that is likely to have been mandated by Baylor.

There is nothing offered by the writer (or the attorney) to show that Briles "used" his promise solely/primarily as a threat against Baylor. He may well have planned to do just what was stated.

I sure don't view a plaintiff's attorney as a reliable source.

And no, I'm not defending Briles. Just tired of the hack media that places a priority on grabbing headlines. And I find it sad that so many of us are wiling to believe whatever is written - as long as it's what we want to hear.

PS - I already quit drinking. Now I'm going to bed!

Why not another job? Bobby Petrino ring a bell. If Penn state could win again under Joe Pa they would have him dug up tonight . Scumbags and we never hear most of what goes on.
