Nooooooooo !! I've seen him at Dakota games and he acts like a completed jackass. Not a good fit at all. I would be shocked if this happens.

Cornell Mann is one of the best recruiters in the midwest and has mutliple ties and relationships in Michigan, Illinois and Ohio.

Saddi is very similiar to LaVall Jordan. Soft spoken guy, that had a big playing career at WMU. Really knows the game and parents love him. One of the big reasons for Oaklands consistent success for a school with humble beginnings

You realize the 2017 class has three state of Michigan players in the Rivals 150.  One is from Grand Rapids and one is from Kalamazoo.  None are ranked in the top 50.

The 2018 class has two in the Rivals 150.  One from East Lansing and one from Belleville.

The best players in Detroit leave Detroit long before making a recruiting decision.  Meanwhile Beilein has sent kids to the NBA from Ohio, Florida, Indiana, and Canada.  Why would we focus recruiting efforts on a city that doesn't produce talent at a high level anymore?

I don't follow CBB recruiting to know if they have Rivals 300 lists, but I'm pretty sure that if you look at the hometowns of the top 300 kids in the country, there are enough within the city limits of Detroit and the tri-county area to put together a pretty good recruiting class.

All of our 4 players in the current class are ranked in the top 220 of the 247 composite.  All are from MI or OH.  The one guy in the next class is ranked #64 in the country (he's from Wisconsin, so still getting guys from the midwest who are good at basketball).  And the same people who are bitching about not recruiting in the D are the same ones claiming that class isn't any good and will provide no benefit to next year's team because OMG Beilein tailspin.

It doesn't start on the beginning of the senior year. Beilein is essentially dead in Detroit and it's killing us and taking Sparty to new heights. We wanna know why we play soft catholic school league ball.....look at where we recruit. Like I said....recruit Detroit. Or watch them go to East Lansing...Iowa...Xavier and ball out....

Valentine is from Lansing.  Forbes is from Lansing (by way of Cleveland State).  Eron Harris is from Indiana (by way of West Virginia U.).  Costello is from Bay City.  Davis is from Muskegon.  E.G. nobody from Detroit at all making a significant impact.

And what new heights are you talking about?  Getting knocked out in the first round like we did?  WIth their best player actually in uniform rather than in street clothes?

Xavier has two kids from Detroit.  Jalen Reynolds went to prep school for a year because he couldn't enroll out of high school and then was academically ineligible his first season at XU as well.  Are you suggesting that is a feasible path to enrolling at UM?  And Sumner barely played as a freshman, then had a very low efficiency year where he did score in double figures.  Good, but not exactly "balling out" considering he shot under 40% and about 30% from 3 with an assist/turnover ratio less than 2:1.

I don't see anyone on the Iowa roster from the state of MIchigan besides Anthony Clemmons, and he's from Lansing.  Jok and Uthoff are both from Iowa.  Derrick Walton scored more points, had more assists, had twice as many rebounds, shot 8% better from the three point line and 21% better from the charity stripe.  A kid Beilein just happened to sign out of Detroit.

Michigan was built off of Detroit talent and that of the greater area. We can't compete for the top talent in the state of michigan. Cassius Winston....Josh Jackson....Miles Bridges all from Detroit area....all said no thanks to Beilein and hell yes to Izzo. We're dead in Chicago as well and can't compete there. That has to change. You can deny all day. Devin Marble was the Iowa Detroiter I was talking about.

We signed Tim Hardaway Jr. instead in that class.  A better rated prospect and a better player who went pro and got picked in the first round after going to the national title game while Marble stayed on campus savoring his NIT all-tourney team ribbon.

If you're still surprised Tom Izzo is capable of signing elite recruits after one of the greatest careers in the history of college basketball I don't know what to tell you.  The guy went to 4 Final Fours before Beilein got hired.  It ain't on him that the dude is legit.  It also doesn't stop us from being good (they were a solid team in 2013 and 2014 and we did okay too).  It doesn't help us though if you give him credit for guys he hasn't actually signed yet like Josh Jackson.

Detroit talent isn't what it once was or you don't want to get dirtied in Chicago? Simpson pulled the trigger before Winston, so that was that for PG. Jackson hasn't committed yet, has he? I don't care where recruits come from. Chatman and Wilson (contributions to date aside) are from the West Coast, 4* on 247 with decent offers, particularly Chatman. Beilein isn't in love with one-and-done prospects or egos, he cares about academics, he values coachability, etc. He can win like this and if not thrown off by the unexpected early departures and injuries, there wouldn't have been the fall off and handwringing.

You keep talking about recruiting but have no substance and you keep repeating yourself. Purple is handing you your ass and all you have is "Beilein is a ghost in Deteoit gyms" because 2 kids in one class went to MSU. No one from Detroit has made an impact on MSU's team thus far. We actually have a senior from Detroit that has more tourney wins than pretty much any Deteoit recruit you can think of in recent years

You guys are piling on MichiganMan14 over a technicality. True, most kids that play for MSU did not attend high school in Detroit but best believe they were in a lot of Detroit area gyms.

Gone are the days when college coaches recruited the high school coach. Back in the 70's, 80's and early 90's, the high school coach was a powerful figure. That is not the case in todays time. The club teams have the power. And guess where the top four programs in the state are based...Metro Detroit.

When talking about the recent Spartans:

  • Jason Richardson (Mustangs)
  • Kelvin Torbert (Mustangs)
  • Paul Davis (Mustangs)
  • Maurice Ager (Hurricanes)
  • Drew Neitzel (Mustangs)
  • Goran Suton (Mustangs)
  • Tom Herzog  (Hurricanes)
  • Kalin Lucas (The Family)
  • Durrell Summers (The Family)
  • Draymond Green (The Family)
  • Derrick Nix (The Family)
  • Keith Appling (Reach/Mustangs)
  • Denzel Valentine (Mustangs)
  • Bryn Forbes (The Family)

All practiced out of Detroit area gyms with their club teams. So yeah, Beilein needs to recruit Detroit a little harder.

Let's be realistic.

If we had just signed a couple lowly rated players like Clemmons/Reynolds were, people would be bitching that Beilein sucks at recruiting too much to get out-of-state guys, and having to settle for mediocre local talent is killing the program.

He recruit a hell of a team to Mt. clemens for 2 years before getting fired. Now the last 2 years he has recruited many to Dakota. I don't like this hire at all.....

I coach for East Detroit. A little while back the whole crowd at Mt Clemens rushed the floor and began to brawl with our players/fans. I got sucker punched by a Mt Clemens parent. Never did we get an apology or anything and the sheriff dept had to escort us out.

They were running such a dirty program during that time, and I don't want that to be associated with that at U-M.
