Sorry if this was already posted. I know there have been talks on the board with the concesus that he has already passed the deadline for a medical redshirt. However, it says that Harbaugh wants to gather more information and possibly see if there are any exceptions. Thoughts?

As a retired lawyer, my view would be that TruBluMich has it right with comments #41 and #45. See excerpt below.

In his most recent comments to the media, Harbaugh has clearly not been worried about the "letter" but the "spirit" of the Waiver Rule and has made express reference to the "appeal process."

Personally, I see no way to interpret his comments except in relation to TruBluMich's highlighted section of Review of Denied Waiver Rule 12.8.4.2.1 regarding "circumstances that may warrant relief from the application of the legislated waiver criteria."

Harbaugh and his advisors certainly can read the Waiver Rule and do the arithmetic as well (or better) than any of us and he would not waste his time or the Athletic Department's money without there being this review (aka "appeal") process from a denied waiver, as well as critera for an appeal to be granted under which Ojemuda would at least have a reasonable chance to qualify for relief.

The Big Ten makes the call and if it's denied then the university/student can appeal to the NCAA Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement.  Then there's this rule that basically opens everything up.

12.8.4.2.1 Review of Denied Waiver. A conference that denies an institution’s hardship waiver may submit the waiver to the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. The committee shall have the authority to review and determine whether to approve the waiver based oncircumstances that may warrant relief from the application of the legislated waiver criteria. (Adopted: I4/20/09, Revised: 7/31/14)
