I'm Going to Give it A Try

I'm sure many of us have dreams or have had a fantasy dream of becoming somebody famous but this dream of mine is neither for fantasy or fame. I have a been a patron of Michigan football for 20 years now, since birth. I love this team, these players and our school. Seeing it fall the way it's gone has been heart breaking and I think I could maybe contribute a small portion in it's efforts to get better. I want to kick for Michigan. Now before you fall over laughing and wipe tears from your eyes and restrain from breaking your ribs hear me out. Back in my years of soccer I could kick a ball like Pele could bicycle kick his goals, with power and accuracy. Hell by the end of elementary I ended my career in our league with 113 goals. I was dead accurate evertime I struck it. Then in middle school I continued playing until I decided to quit going into the high school level. Sadly I ended it with only 30. However my junior year in high school made me realize how powerful my leg could be. On a warm day during our lunch break me and four friends were sitting at our table talking about football and our school's kicker. He was having an aweful year and I made a remark how I could kick farther and longer then him and I hadn't even played a game of football in my life. So my friend bet me 50 dollars that I couldn't make a 30 yarder so I swallowed my pride and took a deep breath and said make it 50 yards. 50 for 50. He shook his head and laughed and I got up and said "stadium's empty right now." He gave me a yeah right kind of look and we snuck into the stadium, grabbed a ball from the bin and placed it on the 40 yard marker. Now I'm not going to lie I felt nervous and with a quick little sprint drove all the power I could beneath the ball and let it soar. It was dead on. Perfect from takeoff to landing. Their faces were priceless and mine was both stunned and proud. I not only won 50 bucks but kicked a fifty yarder. I then knew that maybe I had a gift. High school since has ended and I never tried out for the team nor did I play one game of real league football but damn it I have an ability. And I thought what the hell, why not try out and give it a shot! Who knows what could happen if I don't make it I don't make it at least I tried. What do you guys think?

Got some buds today and played a game of backyard football and luckily it was on a practice field. I kicked also but unfortunately the wind affected my range and distance. Wind speed was 14 mph and my kicks kept having a tendency to go to the right. I did however sneak a good amount between the uprights so I'd say I was about 70% accurate. I struggled in the 45 to 50 range. I even tried a 52 yarder and it had the distance but the aim was way off and the wind carried that one too. I'm going to have to find some days when the wind is not as bad. Today it was blustery and almost every time it kept sailing wide. Anyways I'm heading back over to the field tomorrow to work on some kicks. I'll keep you updated on the progress.

why not try out at a different school? most MAC schools and State are basically open enrollment (oh, snap?), and, at least at the MAC schools, you may have a reasonable shot at getting some PT in a few years if you can really kick 50 yards.

One of the most bothersome things a person can encounter in his/her life is "What If?" questions. If you feel that strongly, go for it. btw, kicking over a line is a lot different than just kicking for fun, think about that next time you practice.
