Interesting Read on Jim Harbaugh

Submitted by Ponypie on

I haven't seen this posted yet, so pardon asked if it has been. From ESPN's Seth Wichersham on Jim Harbaugh's clearly complex and admittedly problematic personality. In the end, it appears that being the younger brother has not worn well with him, and that he lives - and will die - competing.

What all this would mean for a college coaching stint is unclear. In some ways, JH carries the necessary intensity, bluntness, and demandingness to help a team succeed, somewhat in the manner of Bo and other greats; on the other hand, all that at what cost. For me, the article reinforces the reasons why I would much prefer John over Jim.

So much of the game is attitude.  It seems that at all his stops he's able to instill a high degree of his hyper-competitiveness in his team, and piss them off.  This will have more effect on a college team compared to the professionals, but it's significant there too.  That's why his teams turn around so fast.

In an evenly matched street fight, I'll put my money on the pissed off guy who wants it more - every time.

Much as we could use a guy like Jim Harbaugh, he's not coming to Michigan. He will be the next coach of the Miami Dolphins.

Michigan is not going to cross Ross after how much he's given the school.

possibly no longer than two seasons, but wit all chief components, i.e., staff and coordinator of choice to keep the program running once he got it back on track.  It would take until he got the right qb. if there is one on the team now, the winning could start immediately, just like the transformation.  However, I would not want him for an extended period of time and neither would anyone on this site.  He would self implode, be it sober or in his cups like Moeller, but unlike Moeller, for any reason or no reason at all.  He suffers from some mental disorder, or i should say everyone around him suffers from it. If it changed his personality with fluctuations of happiness and depression, I'd call it bi-polar.  But it's not that. He just seems to have a hell of  a problem staying happy and always is looking for his next great challenge even while working on the current puzzle.

He is not our permanent answer, but he could restore order to the program similar to the manner Bo did. When he leaves once this is accomplished, a younger, hand-picked successor - and believe me it would be someone holding Jim's vision as self evident. Jim's stay should be no longer than three years maximum. He'll never be able to fully overcome his personality disorder that separates him from the common, but makes him who he is. His hand picked successor would be a far less polarizing figure that could probably coach as long as he wishes but we would have the ship righted. I guess all that remains is does he want it. If he does, Brandon will be gone, even in Ross has to wait a few years to get Jim to Miami - YTM.
