Monday Perspective.

Sounds cliche' but it's definitely a red/blue pill scenario for our football program. I think highly of Brady as a man. I do not think he is a very effective head coach. Recruits love him and he gets our tradition. Is it worth the 4-6 losses a year? I don'tthink so but firing Hoke does nothing without a subsequent "Home Run" hire. I hate the thought of another 3 year build up but perhaps if we hire the right guy, he could reasonably find success in year one with the talent that Brady amassed. Our players could simply start playing for Brady and save his job. I just don't see the passion that I saw growing up in this program. I think Michigan has a chance to squeeze 7 or 8 more wins out of this season but it will take a monumental turn around, quarterback change and a sincere gut check. Who are we anymore? We don't have a defined identity. I think moving Gardner back to WR and starting Shane Is the best move for the program at this time. It accelerates his development and chemistry with the offense, which is nearly back in its entirety next season. It also allows Devin to show case his talent to NFL scouts in a realistic position. Devin could possibly play WR in the league. QB is a stretch. I haven't lost hope for Michigan football and you shouldn't either. We are not a top 25 program right now but we are not that far away despite how it seems. There may need to be a change at the top and most of us can sense that it's coming. While we are at it I'd love to see a move back to Nike. Adidas has not been a fortunate branding for us. The turnaround begins this Saturday along with B1G play. I remember 2007 and we were in the same position. Let the theatre that is this miserable start to this season play out. I have a feeling that we may make dram out of this thing yet. Does it annoy anyone else that Arizona is 4-0? Karma?

Brady had the look at his presser that RR did during some of his in 2010. The pressure is just getting to him.

"We don't have an identity. We should switch QBs and let the current QB use the season to audition for the NFL at a different position."

Not coherent, man.

Just a quick note to say so long until next year when the Maize and Blue heads west to open the season.  I know that this isn't a direct reply to the topic but I figure this is the best place I can find to post just a couple of thoughts.

First, a real thanks to everyone, particularly Alum96, who was very hospitable in the short time I've been here at mgblog.  You guys run a very knowledgeable board with perhaps the best pregame breakdown I've ever seen.  I look forward to coming back next year.

Secondly, I really don't want to say much about the game.  I've been through years like you guys are having and they suck.  The only comment I'll make is that I didn't for one minute think that  Funchess was anywhere near 100% even when he was catching everything in sight in the first quarter.  Kid seems a real talent and I hope he gets healthy soon.

Third, as I said before, UM fans make gameday what a college gameday should be.  We didn't make the trip this year but I'm glad to say that I have heard nothing but the highest praise for Wolverine fans and the great way they treated Ute fans.  Here are a few bullet points from some posts on our board.   I'm sure the posters won't mind me mentioning them here.

  • This may just be my subjective opinion but Michigan fans are at least as good, if not better, hosts than ND fans. Everybody we talked to was not only nice but went out of their way to be good hosts.
  • Everyone at Zingerman's cheered every time someone in red walked in.  Free snacks and samples for all of the kids.
  • UM fan in blue paid for my kids' drinks and snacks at a convenience store on the way to the game.
  • The row of "bros" behind us turned out to be a lot of fun, they even shared their whiskey.
  • Family in front of us were extremely concerned about blocking my son's view.  They spread out as much as they could and told him to stand on the bench to make sure he could see.
  • I hope we can be equally as classy as UM fans were when they come to Rice-Eccles Stadium next year.

I could go on with more praise but this post is getting long enough as it is.  For our tailgate group, we hope to hook up with some Michigan fans to join us next year for tailgating before the game.

Best to all UM fans and the team

Thanks for coming back and sharing those comments.  I think Nebraska fans are known as the nicest in the country but those stories are very cool and I think as long as you are not from Ohio or a Spartan we treat people pretty well. :)  Hopefully next year it's a lot more competitive gain; we thought this year would be progress but right now we seem stuck in quicksand.  Going to be a very tough opening game next year.  Good luck with the schedule - when I look at yours and compare to ours its quite tough.

How long until I can stop hearing about how great RR was? Am I crazy, or do I remember him getting shut down every time we played a defense with a pulse? He was horrible, and frankly his ghost still haunts me today. You see, before him I never EVER saw a QB throw 4-5 interceptions in one game and stay on the field. His last QB recruit is still doing this in year 4 of the next coach. Devin is just not a very good QB, and I don't think he has the ability to read the field under pressure. I also would challenge the "this offense has a ton of talent" meme that is going around here. Just because some guys who don't coach football give some highschool players stars on a website, it doesn't mean they are actually going to be good.  How many of our offensive starters would definitively start for OSU today over their current roster? Funchess. I can only think of one. I really want Hoke to turn things around, because another coaching change would be brutal. Who knows, maybe we need to rip the bandaid off? Either way, I will watch every second of every game and support this team the best I can.
