Confessions of a Michigan Football Fan

Submitted by Libertine on

11 Warriors has an interesting piece on their site where they "invite you (their readers) to spill your sins, real or perceived, against Ohio State athletics." It makes for a fun/entertaining read and I thought we Michigan fans probably have plenty of interesting thoughts to spill as well.

So I guess I'll start with my 3 confessions:

-I love Ann Arbor to death, but I don't think it's the best college town in the Big Ten. I think that privilege goes to Madison.

-I'm a Hoke fan, and I love Mattison and think Nussmeier was a great pick up, but State has the best all-around football staff/coaches in the Big Ten. Hands down.

-Here's my big one... Had we played Nebraska in a BCS Championship-like game back in '97, I think they would've won.

Bonus: I LOVE the movie "Rudy" and have no real negative feelings toward Notre Dame at all.

I consider myself one of Michigan's biggest fans but I stop watching close games because I don't want to see us lose. I've missed the end of some amazing games!

One more thing that is a gripe, not a confession: I hate that adults follow recruits on twitter. They're in HS for g-d's sake.

1. I really don't like when people that have no affiliation with Michigan, aside from being football and basketball fans, call themselves "Michigan Men." 2. From the age of about 8 until 11 or so, I was a Michigan football fan but rooted for MSU in basketball...sad. 3. I don't think Hoke is a good X's and O's coach. However, I do believe he should be given 2-3 more years to prove himself. I say this based on two main reasons: a) The guy is a great recruiter, obviously. b) He's a players coach and I think he does a good job managing the team. That said, I always remember Molk saying "I love him, I love how he coaches, I love his leadership ability... I’d do anything for him." These are the most important aspects of being head coach, IMO. Just got to have top notch coordinators and position coaches.

but I consider myself a Michigan Man, care to know why? This is the dumbest debate out there . So what, you got a degree from their school. I guarantee my Grandpa instilled the appropriate ethics, character, and attitude to make me a Michigan Man when he started taking me to games at age 6 and teaching me about the traditions, the program, and the value of sport and hard work in life. And no Im not an uneducated walmart wolverine, or whatever.
