Michigan's Chase Winovich explains 'little brother' comments aimed at MSU

"That's an interesting thing, because on one hand I'm moving on from it -- but on the other hand ... in my eyes, I didn't start the fight."

"If I go through any other week, and I've been interviewing with you guys for years, I'm not out here trying to call out teams in post-game interviews," Winovich said. "I don't like a lot of teams, but I'm not just going to pick a fight.

"But for them, they called us 'little sister' in the summer. They came there and tried their antics with the helmet. Obviously, you guys know how that went."

"It's almost like they wanted us to take the low road, and maybe I took the bait," Winovich said. "But I don't mean any harm from it. I'm just having fun. I think they took it a lot more serious than I did.

"But yeah, I'm moving on. I'm focusing on the Penn State game. That's the only thing that's on my mind."

For me, the "little brother" comment was never isolated to sports, and that is what makes it so powerful. I felt no shame using it to counter MSU fans who would talk crap about Michigan. It is always enjoyable to see how mad they get. I will continue to use it until they compete with us at a holistic level in academics. Till then, in my eye, they will always be "little brother" regardless of how we perform in sports.

Just for fun, I always like to throw in an additional "at least I have my Michigan degree" when our team sports perform poorly.
