OT: Freep warnings

Submitted by Fishbulb on October 12th, 2018 at 5:51 AM

Guys, can we please collectively abandon attaching those ‘warnings’ to our posts? It is more than played out, and it isn’t even necessary—I may be a little unique in this regard, but seeing ‘freep’ in the link I consciously click is a dead giveaway to me that it is a link to the Detroit Free Press. No warning needed—I can assemble that connection in my head and then choose if I want to click or not. Stretchgate was a couple coaches and AD’s ago, and it’s not like it caused Michigan to miss a bowl (they did that on their own) or remove a banner. Thanks, and have a great Friday!

I, personally, would be super disappointed to be pissed on while on fire. So while I get the sentiment, I don’t understand the logic. One, if the fire was of the severity where an average piss could extinguish the flame...chances are that a basic stop drop and roll could take care of it. And two, if fully engulfed in flames...pissing on me would just add extreme insult to injury in my final moments. That being said, if any of you happen to see me burning alive....please, regardless of how you feel about me, don’t piss on me to put me out. Thank you.

Ok this is a step too far! And takes the responsibility off of the people who were in charge and actually had an effect on the product on the field. We can’t blame a newspaper article on the team losing games. Hell people have written much worse about Urban and his awful shenanigans this year, yet the squad is still undefeated. Harbaugh has goofy articles written about him all the time, and even he has won more than RR did. Was the Freep article some BS? Absolutely! Still doesn’t excuse the losses though

Freep redeemed themselves with unrelenting coverage of Molester State U last year.  Between the Freep and News, not a week went by without actual news reporting as events unfolded in EL..... and some editorial pieces too.  Well done by both papers.

Agree. I was mildly mad at the Freep for a while, but that was a long time ago.

The Freep’s sports writers are very good, especially when it comes to Michigan coverage. And Wojo’s brand of humor is pretty lame.

How about we just let people who want to put a warning do so, and people that don't want to put a warning not do so?

Seems pretty harmless either way.

Amen.  The Freep Warning thing is a load of crap.  That was many years ago.  There is good journalism, mediocre journalism, and not-so-great journalism at the Freep.  Local journalism is important.  I wish it were better - so does everyone else.

The people giving Freep Warnings for stuff are the same crowd that will attack the media at the first mention of any scandal (MSU people attacking ESPN for reports on Dantonio and Izzo, OSU people attacking ESPN for Urban).  It's not a good look.  All three are obviously vastly different, but good grief, people, the Rosenberg thing was almost 10 years ago.

Never forget the hack job they did on Rich Rod and how it affected the program. Also who cares. Just ignore it if it bothers you like everyone else does. Do you work for them or something?

#1: Don't tell me what to do.

#2: If Free Press content is so worthless it needs a warning--Freep or Free Warning--why is anyone posting it at all?

Wait, this is a thing? Kind of funny that Michigan fans hate the Freep and are boycotting it for years, but make fun of MSU fans for avoiding ESPN.

On me? How?

I think it's silly for either fanbase. Because you don't like something they published, that means all of the other work they do is of poor quality? That seems to be the logic fail to me.

I disagree with your opinion so your opinion is bad and you should apparently feel bad but not really. I think I am the only one left who still cares about that hit job especially compared to the state media letting other scandals go. Oh well.
