Semi-OT: Camp Little Victors
Thought I'd pass along a cool little program I got my 3 kids into last year. Weekly activities are highlighted and kids also get a T-shirt. The content comes mailed to the kids themselves, so the children feel even more special. Just a good way to stay involved with UM, grow our UM futures with our children, and support Mott Hospital activities.
From the site:
Last summer, C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital kicked off a new virtual summer camp program for families looking for ways to make the most of their summer. It was a huge success, so we're back this summer with an even more incredible line up of features for our campers!
Each week for six weeks, participants receive a weekly email full of fun summer ideas from the team at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital. From rainy day activities and kid-friendly recipes to summertime safety tips, each week's features are designed to help your family make the most of your summer.
BONUS: The first 1000 campers will receive a free CAMP LITTLE VICTORS t-shirt
So the kids don't actually go to summer camp, they get weekly emails showing pictures of OTHER kids having fun at an actual summer camp, which in turn gives them the idea that they too should be out having fun? Sounds awesome!...or sounds like somebody is promoting their own project they created at work? Sorry, my snark-ometer is broken, can't help myself sometimes. Feel free to neg away.
In all seriousness, Mott is a great place, so anything to do with Mott gets a thumbs up from me.
The idea is that the virtual campers get a weekly newsletter with ideas and things to do to help pass the summer in a healthy way. Lots of great ideas to be had - things you wouldn't necessarily think about off the top of your head...or "wow, I shoulda thought of doing that with the kids..." type moments.
True, the kids don't go AWAY to camp but this way you get to share the "camping" experience with them.
Sorry for the snarky comment. FWIW I upvoted the post. I actually do think it's a good idea.
Kids asked me that last year: "You mean, we're not GOING anywhere for camp??"
I also thought the same thing when I first saw the ad. Thought we'd be on campus somewhere - no go.
Kids do get a nice T-shirt for participation (first 1,000). Gratuitous T-shirt photo (Smores not included with T-Shirt):
I see good golden brown results in portions of the marshmellow, even coverage takes practice. Handwork will likely result in substantial crumble with potential for crumb loss. Deliciousness isn't likely to be impacted.
Ceiling is high, upshot for future smore-age is galactic, please provide end-of-summer smore results to update performance metrics.
...Graham cracker level is too high. Needs to work on leverage.
I think it's great. I will suggest this for my niece. Thanks for the heads-up. We're always looking for things to do in the summer!
My wife and I did this with the kids last year and we're excited to be doing this again. We discovered that you can only haul them to the park and to Jungle Java and museums and the like so many times before you need additional ideas. These really did help us entertain and educate throughout the summer. I would recommend it.
My Sis is a Sparty Grad and I think I might sign up my niece out of spite.
Please share her reaction to receiving her Welcome Kit and subsequent delivery of her niece's t-shirt!!!! :)
