Jim and John Harbaugh and Mgo members: A Love Story

......because for Michigan fans, the good with these guys far outweighs the bad.

Only rules: no buts, ifs, or equivocations. Everybody knows about the unfortunate comment or two, the peacocking behavior, and the career path choices.  This is for admiration and stories we might not have heard only.  Michigan days, pro days, college coaching days, or pro coaching days.

Jim was probably one of my 3 favorite Michigan players in over 30 years as a fan. He was so different because he could win games with his arm and Bo was evolving in his approach and letting him do it.  Cocky but tough/skilled enough to back it up. A pure winner.

On top of that, the 07 win at USC as a 40 point underdog was the greatest one game coaching job I have ever seen on any level. That USC team planted more defensive players in the NFL draft then there are starting positions.

My roommate recently told me a story of how his father grew up in the same neighborhood in Ann Arbor as John and Jim.  They would play football games and Jim always wanted to play QB.  Being a bit younger than everyone else he would often be told no where he would then proceed to cry, whine and throw a fit.  Some things never change.

Wasn't Jim the first Bo-era QB to make it big in the pros? He may not have been as prolific as Marino or Elway but he always played hard and usually was on bad teams. Despite that, he was close to going to a super bowl and he had fairly respectable rushing stats.

It doesn't matter if Lloyd had stepped down a year earlier and Harbaugh was offered or even if he would have considered coming to UM but you can't deny he is a great coach and works hard. He was an unpaid scout for his dad while playing in the NFL. He was the QB coach to Rich Gannon. Yes, Stanford and the 49ers were kind of rock-bottom when he walked in but he is a winner.

If he badmouthed Michigan, well, it's a part of his legacy. So was playing here and no matter how great it would be to think of him leading UM to six straight MNCs over Alabama and a spotless record against Ohio, I am still happy to say that Michigan has produced one of the best QBs, OTs, CBs, and coaches in football.
