U-M Hockey vs Western - Mason Cup Open Thread
Let's Go Blue! Beat Western, win the Gongshow! Hopefully the guys got a good rest after going to 2OT to beat BG. Fortunately, the second OT was very short.
7:35 PM ET on FSD (or FCSA elsewhere, per justingoblue)
How did I miss that Guptill penalty at the 20:00 mark? Can't catch a break tonight.
Full strength. We need an early goal to get us going.
Come on now.
chill out, man. There are sixteen minutes left and we're on a power play. No reason we can't mount a comeback.
And to think he said he'd seen enough...
Broncos too many men.
Fuck, Moffie called for holding. Weak.
you cannot close your fingers around a jersey. Out of all the things to do, that's one of the easier things for a referee to see. Come on, guys...
Obvious clean play is obvious, but going knee on knee f'ing hurts. Hope he's okay.
Edit: that's an absolutely atrocious call. Look for an extension or a dragging motion, neither exists. Total horseshit.
A major penalty? Really? That's absolutely absurd.
I'm not saying in any way that the kneeing call was correct, but since the referee saw "knee" and that the WMU player went to the locker room, that's the decision for the major right there (which would be correct if, you know, it was actually a penalty).
Again, I don't see the kneeing, but I can see the logic for the major if they were going to call anything.
WTF, Merrill called for a major penalty. Knee on knee hit, but it didn't look intentional.
I think an interference penalty is probably in order there for Merril, but I really, really hate results-based officiating. You can't bump something to a major just because a guy got hurt.
I love that the rulebook requires bumping a penalty based on injury. The problem was the referee identifying a rules infraction, I definitely want to keep injury disincentives to a maximum.
Clare!!! SHG!!!
Major over, 9 min left.
Pretty sure Bennett just broke a wrist. Gah.
WMU going to the box, U-M player down, not sure who.
It's time for you to step away from the keyboard.
Bennett with the injured wrist, Slater to the box. It really would be a testament to the incompetence of the CCHA refs if they manage to lose control of the conference championship game.
5 min for Slater.
BOOM. 3-2.
Moffie!!! 3-2 them
I know I want more fucking goals. Hail!
WE WANT MOAR GOALS!!!
LOL, it's gonna be a photo finish, Lois.
/noonesgonnagetthatreference
Love how the announcing team didn't realize 5-minute majors don't cancel out when a goal is scored.
Bennett is on the ice right now, by the way. Good news.
Penalty over.
3 min to go.
Yeesh. Couldn't ask for a better handful of chances than those.
That's terrible. Treais won that race. Hate the CCHA.
CCHA officiating, ladies and gentlemen. Never been better.
1:50 to go.
1 min left, Hunwick to the bench.
And then no icing the other way. Guess that's our parting gift. Guh.
The chase was close enough to call it off. It was a legit no-call, for once.
