A 7-5 Iowa team gets to tangle with a 9-3 Oklahoma team.
As much as I love the B1G since my alma mater is in it, I must say that this game should not look terribly promising for Hawkeye fans. I dare say that Oklahoma holds answers to football questions that you never asked.
I hate to say it, but I went Oklahoma in the pool. I just don't see the Hawkeyes pulling this one out unless there is a case of the trots that has been going around of late.
ESPN at 10 PM EST. Be there.

= less money = Delany not going for it.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:49 PM ^
I know, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:00 AM ^
= suck.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
Since the article says they WILL coach.

But still, glad I picked them to be more of a clusterfrak than UCLA.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
Sorry about that. I read the article and didn't realize what the link looked like. I just thought that was pretty crazy that they threatened. Talk about a distraction for the this kids on the team though.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:59 PM ^
Had misleading wording, because I didn't really feel your post did. I was blaming ESPN, not you. But I guess my wording didn't get that across. So no harm, no foul. Still interesting.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
...who just this morning became a Sooner.
EDIT: QB scramble and the officials make it rain yellow flags. Damn!
December 30th, 2011 at 11:10 PM ^
That was a pretty violent hit.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:16 PM ^
Not as clever as it looks, from the result of the play.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
If this one get's out of hand I might be able to get some sleep tonight. Not looking good for the Hawkeyes......and there they go with their biggest completion of the night.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
Why don't they just run Blake Bell the whole time they're driving? No one can stop him in the red zone.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:18 PM ^
Good anticipation, looks like Vandenberg can settle in here.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:19 PM ^
How did these two teams get matched up anyways? Why does the Big Ten get screwed with these type of bowls every single year?
Atleast we should do better than the Pac-12.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
Yeah but Wisconsin is going to have to beat Oregon for that to mean anything in the long run. I'm not so sure that they can remember the Alamo against a quality team. DeAntony Thomas vs. No one is not a very good matchup.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
this is the one matchup that we're really underdogs. If we can win the rest, we should be good. I'll probably root for Florida and Georgia although I'd be ok with an MSU win cause it would help out the big ten.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:39 PM ^
Northwestern's a 10-point underdog. Of the 35 bowl games only Boise and Oklahoma had bigger spreads.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:54 PM ^
December 31st, 2011 at 12:07 AM ^
...that can remember Northwestern winning a bowl game. Truman was President and the Korean War was still a year and a half in the future.
If they lose tomorrow they'll tie ND's record for consecutive bowl losses. I hope that doesn't happen but I'm not holding my breath.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:21 PM ^
Matt Millen's thinking, "I'd still draft McNutt."
December 30th, 2011 at 11:52 PM ^
but I always pause when seeing the words "Matt Millen" and "thinking" in the same sentence. I believe that what we generally witness from him is more reflex-arc pathway than any higher cortical processing. So, more Pavlovian, act-react type stuff like "I plan on drafting higher rated underperforming skill players."
December 30th, 2011 at 11:29 PM ^
rb committee!
December 30th, 2011 at 11:53 PM ^
How overratted/weak is the big 12? I'm actually feeling a lot better about NW pulling off the upset tomorrow. Lets go Big Ten!
December 30th, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Northwestern's bowl history is about as bad as you can get. Just one bowl win in school history and that was way back in 1948. You have to think they'll eventually win one.
Another reason to root for them tomorrow is so that Notre Dame's NCAA record of 9 straight bowl losses doesn't get tied.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:14 AM ^
Ugh. The Big 12 is so soft that it's just saddening. I prayed for Oklahoma State to get the #2 ranking just so that they could have their souls ripped out by the Honey Badger.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:17 AM ^
...but I suspect the majority of people watching this game aren't sitting there thinking "wow, the Big 12 really sucks." At least that's not their primary thought.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:24 AM ^
With opponents like Washington and Iowa how can you lose! Iowa lives on the fact that Michigan had their "Lou Holtz: 'Your team won't show up for one game'" game against them. They (the Big 12 [OSU]) can beat Stanford and I suppose I'll back down on this stance.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:25 AM ^
They'll be 4-1 against the spread after this game.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
You'll have to elaborate, "spread" is a vague word in college football.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:42 AM ^
The Big 12 is favorites in all but 2 of their bowls. Which generally means they're getting unequal match-ups.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:56 PM ^
then this could get ugly...
December 30th, 2011 at 11:59 PM ^
That helped, a lot.
December 30th, 2011 at 11:58 PM ^
Go Hawks!
December 30th, 2011 at 11:59 PM ^
How does a mediocre 7-5 Iowa end up playing a 9-3 team that started the year #1? Oklahoma is much better than Jokowa.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:00 AM ^
"Jokowa"??? What the hell is that?
December 31st, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
Weren't they the little hooded guys that sold C-3PO and R2 to Luke and Obi Wan?
December 31st, 2011 at 12:47 AM ^
Utini!
December 31st, 2011 at 12:13 AM ^
Someone needs to let Iowa's offense know that they actually need to score points to win.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:25 AM ^
Why does #12 on Oklahoma's defense not have a name on the back of his jersey? Get lost on his way to Arch Stanton's grave?
December 31st, 2011 at 12:50 AM ^
The #12 doesn't have a name because, IIRC, Austin Box (Oklahoma player who died this summer of an overdose) used to wear #12. During each game, a different player from the oklahoma team wears #12 to honor him throughout the season.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:27 AM ^
or did Ferentz just go for it on 4th and four in the third quarter when he was in field goal range? I think it was the right call, but I'm just shocked he did it.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
This Iowa drive is boardering on Zook: extremely methodical, long drive. But down three scores.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Someone tell this guy he can pass on first down. Especially when you're down by three TDs.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
YOU JUST BOUGHT A $50,000 LEXUS WITHOUT TELLING ME!!!! I KNEW I SHOULD HAVE MARRIED BARRY FROM ACCOUNTING.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:29 AM ^
Not close enough to be interesting, not enough of a blowout to be amusing.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:36 AM ^
is the same number of points as a regular one. The Iowa offense gets the memo. Just let them know now that there aren't 5 "quarters" and there isn't time for two more 8-minute drives.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:39 AM ^
Iowa needs a stop here.
December 31st, 2011 at 12:40 AM ^
Oklahoma's punter is really really good it turns out
December 31st, 2011 at 12:42 AM ^
says I'm sorry but I have a Vandenberg int coming up here in a moment
December 31st, 2011 at 12:45 AM ^
Or a stupid sack. That was one him. Shut up Millan you are taking my thunder.
