1. Ann Arbor is a dump. Sorry, but it is true. Have you been to Boulder?
2. Belle's is good but other than that, uh...
3. Michigan is good a school. I'll give it that. Both CU and UM consistantly rate near the top of public university lists. Yuri is smart to be considering these schools.
4. The big 10 sucks ass.

Um, Denver? I know it's not quite Chicago, but it is a city, and is just 25 miles away. Also within 300 miles of Boulder: Breckenridge, Vail, Aspen, Winter Park, Keystone, etc. Just sayin.

Ha, K.
P.S. If I were a true Colorado person, I would insert something about at least Tebow being in the news helps to bury the Suh headlines (and then add something derogatory about Detroit)...but, sadly, I am still a Lions (and Detroit) fan, so I can't :(

So what is it Boulder doesn't have? An airport? A car rental place? A place to stay for the weekend? Or your friends?
December 7th, 2011 at 1:47 AM ^
Fair enough. And I don't take offense (nor do I have any interest in figuring out who is downvoting me). I think it's funny that I'm being downvoted simply for defending some aspects of Colorado, when I think my posts make it pretty clear that I like both places (and, as I said, I'm a season ticket holder for both schools), but regardless, it's been interesting, but I'm out for the night.

How do you decide where to be on a Fall Saturday?
December 7th, 2011 at 11:05 AM ^
Well, I live in Colorado now, so I see more CU games, but I try to make it back to a few Michigan games each year. Which games depends on who is playing and scheduling.
December 7th, 2011 at 12:41 AM ^
I add, for the uninitiated, that Michigan beer is superior to Colorado's. Founders, New Holland, Arcadia Ales...take your pick. We have the finest microbrewed in all the land.
The Big Ten? Well, we're better than...I'm sorry, which conference are you irrelevant in this year?

Well, if we're talking macro brews, I definitely side w/ Michigan...
EDIT: Lol, I wasn't even being sarcastic, I genuinely prefer Stroh's to Coors, but downvote me if you must.
December 7th, 2011 at 10:23 AM ^
Isn't Goebel (if its still being brewed) brewed in Detroit...if so, I think that is an automatic loss for Detroit
/worst beer ever!!!
December 7th, 2011 at 12:13 PM ^
I have fond memories of my dad drinking a Goebel beer almost every day after work in the summer. I never had a chance to try it (sigh...or maybe lucky?).
Stroh's acquired Goebel at some point before it was discontinued as a brand, thus the Detroit connection (I think).

Is honestly the worst fucking beer I've ever had. I won't say worst beer on Earth, because maybe there's something in Kazakhstan I'm not aware of that makes you blind after six pack, but I've had a lot of macro-brew beer in my day, and aside from the ultra-low calorie shit, Coors is the one thing I won't drink.
I had Coors Extra Gold exactly once in college, and it made me want to vomit. And Coors Light is piss-water flavored with Juicy Fruit for people who want to pretend that they like to drink beer.
And their commercials. Dear god.
I cannot stress enough how terrible Coors is.

At the risk of being downvoted again, and despite my always obvious pride in my home state (if you ever meet me in person, you'd see it), I really doubt Michigan can win the microbrew war. I love Founders, Bells, et al., but compared to New Belgium, Odells, Avery, Tommyknocker, Great Divide, Breckenridge, Oskar Blues, etc. I'm sorry, but Colorado is just better in that respect.
December 7th, 2011 at 1:04 AM ^
Downvotes mean absolutely nothing nowadays, so don't worry about them. Everyone is always going to be impartial to their favorite beers, as someone who worked at the Bells bar in downtown Kzoo while in school, there is nothing better than on tap Hopslam, or Oberon day. IMO

I live in Florida and the happiest two weeks of my year are when I come home to GR and hit up Founders... I always miss Double Trouble though :( On the bright side I get My Breakfast Stout durring Christmas and Centenial at xmas and 4th of July.. God I miss Michigan...

I hear you, and I like Michigan beers too. And like the guy said above, a lot will come down to personal taste, but one other factor tilting in Denver/Boulder's favor is that the MI breweries are in different parts of the state, and a couple hours from A2, whereas all the breweries I listed are within 45min-1hr of Boulder at the most.
December 7th, 2011 at 12:20 AM ^
Not to get in the middle of a fight, but:
1. I've lived many years in both, and they are each among the best college towns in the country. Anyone who says one is clearly better than the other -- especially to live in while actually going to college -- is kidding themselves, or biased.
2. I am very familiar, and yeah, this is a fight Colorado/Boulder is going to win v. Michigan/Ann Arbor everyday.
3. Even though I went to CU, I admit you're correct by most objective measures.
4. Sadly true the last several years :(. Hopefully that changes someday.

Can I just ask why this was deleted? Was it just the subject matter? Wasn't really intending to flame anyone.
December 7th, 2011 at 12:28 AM ^
Just downvoted, so it got hidden (unless you change your viewing threshold, which is set to start at "1". Other than that I have no idea why someone downvoted it.
December 7th, 2011 at 12:32 AM ^
Ah, got it, thanks. I've read the blog for many years, but am still relatively new to the board.
December 7th, 2011 at 8:28 AM ^
Maybe because you're disrespecting bell's beer, which I believe was just listed as one of the two best breweries in the country. So I'd say our beer scene is better.
December 7th, 2011 at 12:10 AM ^
How does every recruiting thread that has nothing to do with Dunn somehow end up being about him? If people continue to obsess over him there's going to be some hurt feelings if he decideds to stick with ohio.
December 7th, 2011 at 1:11 AM ^
We remember. When you mention CU, that's what most people remember. Gotta be hard to be remembered solely by beating one team once on what is proclaimed as a "miracle" that CU won.
December 7th, 2011 at 1:24 AM ^
Well, you know, besides the MNC in 1990, but I digress. The sad part is that I can't even take pride in that video. I was a high school junior at Pioneer at the time -- obviously a die-hard Michigan fan -- and watching in the stadium that day. No matter how much I tried, I could never watch that replay on the video screen at Folsom during my undergrad days without remembering the nauseous feeling I had when it happened.
I should really get off of this thread, though. As a season ticket holder for both teams, this is starting to get uncomfortable.

We remember 62 -36.
Nice try, big 10.

Wow, that Pac-10 arrogance doesn't take long to root itself, does it?
P.S. You're not the SEC no matter how much you troll.

went to hell. Although, I did get a few laughs seeing the retard from CO try and compare Colorado to Michigan... talk about bringin a knife to a gunfight.
