B10 Homerun Threats
http://myespn.go.com/blogs/bigten/0-3-663/Who-are-the-Big-Ten-s-home-ru…
Adam Rittenberg has listed his take on the top homerun threats in the B10. Among Michigan's entries is Daryl Stonum and possibly Vincent Smith and Je"Ron Stokes.
While it is hard to argue with many of these picks, and I am glad to see these players mentioned, I was upset that one player didn't make the list. Martavious Odoms deserves to be on this list. Especially if Je'Ron Stokes made it on without playing a down for Michigan in a meaningful game.
What do you guys think?
Carlos Brown.
healthy Yao Ming. I've been recognizing the arrival of the last few springs by the ending of his season due to injury :-)
Carlos Brown is the biggest omission. Isn't it between him and Woolfolk for fastest guy on the team?
And I don't think Odoms has "home run" speed necessarily. I think he is 4.5-4.6 guy...more shifty than straight line fast.
Carlos Brown should be on this list. He's done it before.
What about Denard??
The problem I have with Denard is the same problem I have with Stokes, they havent played a game yet. To me Stokes is more acceptable than Denard because we know he will be a receiver. It is up for debate whether or not Denard will be a QB or receiver.
All speculation on my part, but I can see Denard killing it in the return game.
With all the talk of Grady being a fumble factory I wonder why nobody ever brings up Odoms.
Catching punts is difficult. A lot of players muff them.
BlueSeoul's latest diary?
Brown and Gallon.
I thought he was serious until I saw Blair White from MSU on the list.
I was surprised to see Wisconsin's Kraig Appleton mentioned. His high school teammate Terry Hawthorne, who ended up at Illinois, was much more of a home run threat.
No Carlos Brown? Uh, okay.
Agreed on Carlos Brown. He should be on that list. He's going to break some big ones this year.
don't include his fibula or hand
bad immediately after laughing at that.
This response is funnier than the original comment, well done.
the dude is bad. When healthy. We'll see what goes down. As for home run threats, couldn't we also include big plays that will result in 6 on the board a couple/few plays later? If we widen the definition of 'home run threat' to include 'really big plays' I think we're going to have a lot of threats.
is my darkhorse for homerun threat.
There is no chance that these guys were going to be on the list but what about Feagin and Terrance Robinson. Feagin made some nice plays in the Minny game and T Rob is the author of the dream shake. If I recall correctly a lot of folks thought that he was going to be the starting slot guy before he got hurt.
Based off spring game, those guys didn't get much PT and didn't do much when they did. At least we've seen what Shaw and Brown can do when they get in open space.
not complete without mention of Nick Sheridan. A Sheridan pass is more likely to result in 6 points for the opposing team than any other Big Ten quarterback.
... but burn nonetheless.
Here's hoping that Juice Williams reverts to that type of home run threat, though it seems doubtful.
I have heard of most of these players. Brandon Saine, a home run threat. What about Pryor of Juice? They're homerun threats.
...with Smith. Smith's strength seems to be more like that of a hitter who will get you a double or triple at a crucial juncture of a game than a "home run threat."
Smith is an extremely intelligent player with great vision who will break off a thirty yard punt return to change field position in a tight game, or somehow get you twenty on fourth and nineteen, but I don't think he has the breakaway speed to take a lot of plays "to the house" in college.
With the mismatches the spread creates in the defensive backfield, though, you never know. I hope I am gloriously wrong.
Homerun threat? I know who doesn't belong on that list: Brandon Inge.
Too soon?
Anonymosity-1
Brandon Inge-0 (again)
However Inge does lead Baseball Tonight in number of webgem appearances but trails the Twins' Carlos Gomez by just 1 point based on webgem rankings.
Inge - 9
Etc. - Not even close
PS: Granderson's highway robbery of Sizemore's walk off HR should be #1 webgem of the year. Either that or the Mets' Murphy backhand throw to 1st was sick too.
I love baseball.
