Dumars Decides to Leave Men's Basketball Program
Sept. 26, 2011
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's basketball coach John Beilein announced today (Monday, Sept. 36) junior guard Jordan Dumars (Detroit, Mich./Detroit Country Day) has decided to leave the Wolverine program.
"Jordan has worked very hard the last two years to get back to the court," said Beilein. "However, these injuries have not allowed him to play basketball at a level he expects. This has not been easy for him and I know he has thought long and hard about this decision. We will miss Jordan. He is a wonderful young man, with a very bright future."
"Battling injuries the last two years has been very difficult on me," said Dumars. "I love Michigan, I love this team and I love basketball, however I had to make this decision to move on. I am thankful for the opportunity that was given to me and appreciate all the help I have received. I will always be a Wolverine."
After transferring from South Florida midway through his freshman season (2009-10), Dumars has not played in a game at Michigan, battling knee and shoulder injuries over the last two seasons.

i think the press release makes it seem like he's leaving himself the option to transfer.

Annarbor.com story makes it pretty clear he's not transferring:
A Michigan spokesman said Monday that Dumars will remain in school, despite not being a member of the basketball squad.

Srs. When do Hakeem Olajuwon's kids turn 18?

Best of luck to him. He wasn't a great high school player, so I was very skeptical of him being a decent D1 college player.

When he transferred, I cautioned people not to expect too much of him based on what I saw when he was at USF. Jordan Dumars is a great kid from a great family, but he doesn't process fast enough on the floor to be a bona fide D-1 basketball player.
Often, someone as coachable as Dumars is so good at being coached and wants to compete so badly that his desire transcends his body's physical limitations, and he ends up fighting chronic injuries. Sadly, it looks like that is what has happened here. He probably should have gone to a private school with a small program if he wanted to play basketball in college.
The upside is that he is still a great kid with a great dad, is still extremely coachable and intelligent, and should have a wonderful future no matter what he does. I can easily envision him in an NBA front office someday. I hope he stays at Michigan and gets his degree.
