You know it happened. Visibly uncomfortable shortly afterward. Sweat beading on the forehead. Losing train of thought. Hand waving motions to waft the stink. Oh yeah, it happened.

Shit, come on, who doesn't like to hear a nice push once in a while? Let it go!

I want to drink that Kool-Aid so bad but I am refraining. The meat of the schedule starts now. Consider that the four teams we've played do not know our personnel nearly as well as the teams we will face in the B1G schedule. This is simply because the B1G teams we will face have in-game experience playing against most of our starters. So it will be a tougher road in conference, no doubt. That said, I like our chances in every game but I can't discount the odds that we'll have a game, maybe two, where it's close and the bounce just doesn't go our way.
EDIT: and that said, I have $1 on Michigan to win the B1G to win $16. I also have $1 on Michigan to win the national championship to win $150. FYI, Michigan's odds to win the NC went from +15000 to +5000 after the BYU win. So yeah, maybe I sipped a little of the red stuff.

Did you mean Buttsy? Well, this isn't hockey. Is this anything? Nevermind.

Agreed. Michigan by 20+ points. This one is pretty easy to predict.

OTOH, BYU was a game ending drive away from beating #9 UCLA on the road. Sure, BYU may have been tired from the non-conference gauntlet but I also think they're a pretty good football team.

The 49ers pieces are pure gold. They do look TURRIBLE. Thanks again, SF!
I think the greatness of the D has been talked about enough. For one, I cannot wait for the day when the offense has a 4.3 or 4.4 burner at slot or wideout. There has been some great execution lately on the offensive side of the ball. But a lot of the time the guys are being tracked down from behind after the catch. Put a guy out there who can catch balls and has breakaway speed. Voila...instant star!

UNLV up 80-8 right now. We held them to 7 points. Yeah Michigan's stock is up. Caveat being UNLV is playing Idaho St but still, combine that with Utah's ass stomp on Oregon things are looking good.

It really is great to see the defense playing so well. It's nice to have confidence in at least one phase of the team. Now, about that QB...

"Swirling wind" is akin to "crowned field". Two bad excuses used by Michigan coaches to defend mediocre to poor QB play. Harbaugh will never throw his players under the bus publicly, which is a great thing. But the important thing is Harbaugh and Rudock both know that things need to get better at that position.
|2 weeks 21 hours ago||I agree with many of the||
I agree with many of the comments about Rudock not looking sharp. In the first two games I chalked it up to nerves, new system, not much time on campus. I really thought he was going to be much better today against a weak opponent. Instead he was hesitant, late, throwing behind receivers, and just not finishing drives like he should. We're in for a fight next weekend. And we most definitely will not beat MSU with this type of QB play.

I think particularly notable is the fight the offense is delivering for yards after contact. Smith, Butt, Bunting, just to name a few. These guys are going to war and giving it their all. That never say die attitude is a big plus for the season going forward and something we haven't seen in a while.

"The offense got stronger as the game went on..."
How long has it been since we could make that statement against a P5 opponent? It has been a long time coming.

No flag against Oregon St. on the obvious PI in the end zone was a huge miss by the refs. The ensuing bad snap and ball at the 3 yard line for Michigan was karma. I felt the final score was a true indicator of the flow of the game. I predicted 31-7 Michigan. The final was better than I expected.
|3 weeks 21 hours ago||Loved how the offense got||
Loved how the offense got into a nice rhythm after a clunky first quarter. Rudock is going to be a huge asset this season. He managed the game well. Only one bad decision by my count. He's an intelligent football player and fits well with Harbaugh's vision. I think we are starting to see the offensive line take command. Oregon State's D line is not very good but still I thought the O line did a nice job controlling the LOS.
The offense is only going to get better. I think we're in for a slugfest when MSU comes to town. Enjoy the ride!

Does anyone else think the theme music for NBC's NFL show sounds exactly like "I Hate Myself for Loving You" by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts? It's weird...daggummit.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||Thank you! This makes sense.||
Thank you! This makes sense. You hit the nail on the head by saying they look "passive". I got the same impression looking at those clips. They can play better. Much better. Well, they sort of need to font they? My guess is that comfort level will take a few games to attain. Just keep practicing hard. Patience, I guess.
|3 weeks 2 days ago||The grades are||
The grades are disheartening. I feel like I witnessed a better offense while watching live. The clips of the O line getting manhandled are not fun to watch. One would think the O line would look a little better given all that grade A coaching. Are the players really not very good? Are they young? Are they being asked to block in a way that doesn't fit their physical attributes? I don't get it.

I predicted we'd lose to Utah. But I think we'll win this one comfortably. 31-7 Michigan
|4 weeks 1 day ago||I appreciate your comments||
I appreciate your comments and agree that college offenses have changed to incorporate many spread elements. The NFL game has evolved as well in the same direction. But I tend to agree with others here that Harbaugh does not want pure pro style ala 1980 with 3 yards and a cloud of dust on every play. I think he wants a multiple pro/spread attack. He had it in SF and I think it is the optimum offensive game plan in today's college game. OSU has it and rode it to a national championship. And by the way, they demolished a very good pure pro style (Alabama) and pure spread team (Oregon) in the process.

Jake Butt is a hoss. Probably the best football player on the team. Here's to hoping Peppers proves me wrong.
|4 weeks 1 day ago||Man, I am seeing a ton of||
Man, I am seeing a ton of pessimism. Look, I hate it when Michigan loses as much as anyone here but I saw a bunch of positive things in that game. Utah is a good team and I think they'll be top 15 by the end of the year. That stadium is one of the more difficult venues in the country, and let's not forget about the altitude as well. Tough adjustment for our guys. Utah has a stout front 7 and it showed. I don't think any team this season is going to steamroll their D for 250 yards on the ground.
Rudock had some jitters and the O looked like they played tight. They left at least one TD on the field with an overthrow. The bubble screens looked good. The defense was stout for the most part. Great open field tackles. We went up-tempo on occasion! Peppers is playing like a 5-star and it's only like his third (?) game. And I think we all believe in Harbaugh and Co. to develop the players.
We'll get better as the season progresses The team will gel. I think we'll all be happy with the end result.
|4 weeks 2 days ago||I am not in the camp of||
I am not in the camp of "blame Rudock". I think the INTs were the result of a lethal combination of first game jitters for Rudock and lack of a run game. We needed to gash them a few times for 10 to 20 yards on run plays. That never happened. So Utah played more pass coverage and made us pay dearly. My prediction is Rudock will be markedly better every game he plays. And the O line will get better as well. I think by mid-season we'll have a decently consistent run game and the offense will take off.
The "feeling" I took away from last night was the team just looks better than anything we've fielded over the past 7 years. They look more confident. They look like they know where to be and when (minus Grant Perry on the first INT). Simply put, they are starting to look like the strong Michigan teams of past years. I am not good with specific examples but it's more of a compilation of the whole than any one thing.
I think we'll all be very happy with the team's performance by season's end.
P.S. I loved how we went up-tempo at several points during the game. That is a HUGE upgrade that will pay dividends for us. And the successful bubble screens almost brought tears of joy to my eyes.
