When the Lakers drafted him…

When the Lakers drafted him in 2011, he moved in half a block away from me. I saw him once or twice, but I'm not the type to bother celebrities. Now I wish I had said hello.

He lived in Redondo before going to UofM, and it turns out, he went to the same middle school as my son. I'm shocked. This is so sad. RIP, Darius.

Congrats to all of the graduates.

That’s the idea, though,…

That’s the idea, though, only extend Wolf out to the three point line, creating even more space. I’ll go even further back. This is like Isiah running the pick-and-pop with Laimbeer or drawing the interior defense to him and dishing to James “Buddha” Edwards.

Wolf played a lot on the…

Wolf played a lot on the perimeter in the 2 1/2 games I saw him play. I don’t remember seeing Goldin play, but I think he’s more of the back to the basket guy.
Wolf was a 0.345 shooter from 3 on 2.6 attempts per game. I actually think he’s closer to Tschetter than Goldin.
How they’re going to work together on the defensive end is the bigger question. I’d use a 3-2 zone and rotate the perimeter defenders through frequently to keep them fresh, because that defense requires a lot of movement by them.

I picked Baltimore’s Bradish…

I picked Baltimore’s Bradish for both of my teams. He made his first start after being on the IL to start the season. With 2 outs in the fifth, he walked Judge so he got pulled in a game the O’s won 7-2. That cost me 2 W’s (1 for each team).

Stuff like that, I assume.

The players entered into an…

The players entered into an agreement with the schools to play football in return for a scholarship. What law was broken by denying the players NIL rights that they gave up in exchange for a scholarship? What is being argued is that a new law (granting NIL rights) should be retroactively applied to address a past wrongdoing. That’s the very definition of ex post facto. Sorry that you’re on the wrong side of the Constitution.

This one is seeking vast amounts of damages for players who were denied their NIL opportunities.

Seems like the NCAA is caving when they should be protected by Article I, Section 9, Clause 3 of the US Constitution. But I'm not a lawyer.

Since you mentioned the Green Monster, I watched the Sunday night on ESPN and noticed a bunch of advertising on the monstah. Made me appreciate the clean look of the Big House. All that advertising makes it look like a minor league field.

George Costanza likes the Giovanni Manu pick. You know, it's, it's 'new,' which is good. And a 'ma' in front of it. MA-NU. When you consider the other choices, 'Manu' is actually pretty refreshing.

Lions pick is another…

Lions pick is another patented, “trust Brad Holmes” pick. Giving up a future 3rd rounder for a late 4th rounder from British Columbia? Trust Brad Holmes.

Some teams want to win now…

Some teams want to win now. A mature, 24 year old corner who has matched up well against OSU, Bama, and Washington WRs has to be at least a little enticing. I definitely can see Detroit bringing him in as a UDFA as insurance or bench depth.

There’s another good video out there of Jim talking about his RV, giving you a tour of his RV, talking to his RV neighbors…

I’ll gladly take Keegan at that spot for Detroit. He may be the most “Dan Campbell type player” of anyone on our team. Yes, I’m thinking of him shirtless in the National Championship parade. Just seems like something a young Dan Campbell would do.

A friend of mine transferred…

A friend of mine transferred from UofM to a religious university. It turned out to be too religious for him, so he transferred back to UofM 3 weeks later. Since he transferred back at the last minute, his schedule that semester was a mess. He basically had to take whatever was available. He’s now a successful maxillofacial surgeon near Vail. My point is, I agree with you.

I watched Harbaugh’s press…

I watched Harbaugh’s press conference about the Chargers’ pick. At the end, someone asked him about JJ. Jim said Minnesota was where JJ wanted to go. I suppose it’s close to home for him and he wasn’t going to the Bears at 1, so Minnesota is not a bad second choice. And the Bears suck.

Cousins is 36 and fragile,…

Cousins is 36 and fragile, but I’m still surprised by that pick.

They may have won 13 games…

They may have won 13 games if Dug wasn’t suspended for 6 games and if Nkamhoua didn’t get hurt. When those two things happened, the defensive effort went out the window and the season started circling the drain. But it’s hard to compare last season’s roster to this season’s because it’s entirely turned over. I mean, some people might have thought that Tray Jackson was a good addition, until he got here and had to play a big 10 schedule. I’m very excited to see how the pieces fit together, but I don’t have any expectations. This team is a complete unknown. Ceiling is high. Floor is low due to year 0, transfers jelling issues. I’d guess anywhere from 10 to 25 wins.

I have faith in Director of S&C Mike Favre. Just check out the guy's resume and list of accomplishments. It goes on for pages. (Is he the other bald dude that prowls the sidelines of M football games? Looks like a Herbert mini-me.)

Did anyone else sing this…

Did anyone else sing this song in 2nd grade:

Over hill, over dale
As we hit the dusty trail,
And the Caissons go rolling along.
In and out, hear them shout,
Counter march and right about,
And the Caissons go rolling along.

Then it's hi! hi! hee!
In the field artillery,
Shout out your numbers loud and strong,
For where'er you go,
You will always know
That the Caissons go rolling along.

I know, Caissons/Cason, but I figure that's close enough.

On offense, he can be a 4…

On offense, he can be a 4. On defense? If we play a team with a 4 that can't shoot the 3, fine, sag off, but if he has to challenge the 3 point line, it's a blow-by waiting to happen.

That said, the 4s he will have trouble guarding will have trouble guarding him. So it's like a game of chicken to see which coach backs down first.

I read a book about European…

I read a book about European history recently. The Vikings didn’t just impact Northern Europe (but why is that relevant? Slavery is awful wherever it occurs.) The Slavs inhabited most of Eastern Europe. Europe and Asia didn’t have a trustworthy monetary system back then, so the Vikings and Arab traders would use people as a medium of exchange. The Vikings wanted goods available in Persia, so they would capture humans in Eastern Europe and bring them with them to the slave markets.

I was very worried after…

I was very worried after Iran and Israel traded salvos, but it appears that both sides are claiming victory and backing down. I’ll keep praying for peace and hoping people in charge of things realize how much better the world can be when we direct our energies towards positive actions instead of destructive ones.

I just checked and they are down to one MGoPoint, singular. LOL.

I remember Novak playing the 4 for us. That worked ok until we ran into Oklahoma and Blake Griffin. I’d like more bigs on the roster just for flexibility if nothing else.

Juwan was targeting the wrong kids. It's too bad that someone with institutional knowledge couldn't have provided better advice for him, or that he couldn't figure that out on his own.

What is special about…

What is special about freshman English?

Speaking from personal experience, 30+ years ago, I transferred 3 trimester courses from MSU to UofM. I received some credits, so that was nice. 3+ years into my UofM studies, the college reviewed the syllabi of the MSU course and the equivalent UofM course, decided that the MSU course was lacking something and docked me a credit. This was so late in the game that I had to stay an extra semester in undergrad. I ended up transferring all but 1 of those final semester credits to grad school, but it was kind of a bummer.

Persi started at RG for one…

Persi started at RG for one of the teams. He played more at guard last season than tackle. I would put him as first backup for RG. He’s somewhat odd shaped for guard, but so were Ben Braden and Trevor Keegan. If he’s the 6th best lineman, he’s going to be the backup for both tackle and both guard positions.

Regarding “titch,” Seth, my uncle, and another mid-Michigander are the only three people I’ve ever heard use this word. According to:

https://www.oed.com/dictionary/titch_n1?tl=true

it’s not very common, being used once every 100 million written words. Unless you’re my uncle, who used it on a daily basis.

Congress has the authority…

Congress has the authority to regulate interstate trade. Now that we all agree that intercollegiate, revenue sports are businesses, Congress should authorize the creation of an FDCS (Federal Department of College Sports) akin to the FDIC, FDA, FAA, etc. Would something like that be any better or worse than the NCAA? I have no idea, but at least the regulators/administrators would be indirectly accountable to the voter/sports fan through their elected officials.
The alternative is Congress gives college sports an antitrust exemption and the colleges band together to hire a commissioner, a la Roger Goodell or Gary Bettman. I’m pretty sure that is an awful idea. How does Commissioner Petitti sound to you? Ugh. So I don’t know what the answer is, but the wild, Wild West era we’re in now isn’t working so well.

RE: Jersey sales, we already…

RE: Jersey sales, we already do that. The university doesn’t sell the jersey, they only license the apparel companies to use their logos and trademarks and whatnot. There’s actually a lot of people taking their cut of the cost of a jersey. I read somewhere that UofM gets like $3 per shirt in license fees. To find out what the players are making, look at the cost of the generic jersey versus the custom jersey and deduct whatever you think is reasonable to customize a jersey. The players aren’t getting rich off of uniforms. It’s a bit of a canard that the university was getting rich selling Fab 5 stuff while Webber was struggling to buy pizza. Things are a lot better now, but no one is retiring based on jersey sales.

That’s not at all my point…

That’s not at all my point. My point is that generally speaking, people learn a trade. As they gain experience and abilities, their earning potential increases. That’s true almost across the board.

But the folks on the other side of the argument want to pay freshmen 6 figures because they dominated the AAU circuit against other 18 year olds. Prove it at the college level and earn your money.
