I feel like I remember a tweet or two where people said he was likely to sign and I wrote him off as being likely gone, but now I can't find said tweets so who knows
Nebraska has a fundamental issue in that they don't have a good recruiting footprint and kids being recruited today don't remember Nebraska being dominant in the 90s because they weren't born
I don't think they'll ever be 'back' again to the level of being national title contenders
Feels like Penn State is riding a small wave of momentum from Allar shredding MSU's horrendous pass D. I keep seeing Allar's name in 2025 NFL draft lists and I do not get why. Dude was 10/22 for 70 yards vs us and 18/42 for 191 vs OSU and IIRC he prettied that up late too. Allar is a bad QB and will continue to be a bad QB this fall
The MAC is a de facto FCS league anyway. Unlike a lot of other G5 leagues, the clear majority of this conference is happy where they're at and isn't looking to be a P5 school down the road
With the settlement expected to cost billions in back pay for former athletes, it would likely also require the NCAA and conferences to agree to a system for sharing more revenue with some of the players moving forward.
How on earth are you gonna figure out back pay for former athletes? This seems slightly absurd. What was a RB on USC worth in 1999? 1980? 1967? How about a backup OG on Florida from 20 years ago? A kicker on MTSU from 1992? An additional complication is obviously that all that money has been spent long ago so where's it coming from now? You're talking about going from effectively no pay to all of a sudden paying every living current and former player all at once in some capacity. Seems like another instance of everyone cheering on the NCAA's demise without a clear plan for what happens to the sport next
It was annoying to watch the whole league pile on Harbaugh for sign gate (still waiting for any evidence Jim was involved). They absolutely take this league for granted so if the day of the super league comes or unequal distribution comes, I won't be upset to see like 80% of the old Big Ten be left behind. We're basically giving money to Purdue, Minnesota, Indiana, etc.
Feels like Pettiti is just Sankey's little sidekick. You see Sankey everywhere. You used to see more of Delaney and Warren. What does Pettiti do every day? Just wait for Sankey or Columbus to call him up and tell him what his agenda is for the day?
Feels like Milton will probably bounce around for 5+ seasons just because someone will keep carrying him as QB3 hoping he'll turn into an NFL starter with all the physical tools he has
Probably because the Merrimack's and Lowell's of the world are in his ear and even BC/BU might be happy that for every time they're shipped, they probably also get a free local regional as a 2 or 3 seed
I'm always surprised how many neutral fans go to bat for Franklin. The guy is clearly a good coach as he got Vanderbilt to be relevant and has kept Penn State good, but he is not sniffing elite and Penn State will probably never be in serious national title contention with him there. He doesn't feel like a threat to ever do better than 10-2
“For a national tournament, this continues to be the best format,” Hockey East commissioner Steve Metcalf said. “I know there are other formats. The other suggested formats, I think, have fatal flaws for a national tournament. Neutrality is important. The majority of the coaches support the format we currently have."
grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
I am so tired of hearing New England schools talk about NeUtRaLiTy when they are all but guaranteed two regionals in their backyards every single season. Michigan really just needs to bid Grand Rapids, Toledo, or Yost every single season until this stupid system changes. I had thought we were getting close with the rumors of HE being on board with changes but clearly not. God forbid all of the 3 and 4 seeds from Hockey East have to travel
I'd go as far as to say Beasley and Herring aren't concerning at all. I didn't even remember those guys names before today. Wish they could've stayed but as others pointed out, usually when guys have transferred out it becomes apparent they were probably being passed up because very few who have left would've ever started for Michigan
Agreed. Penix vs. Michigan is pretty close to what Penix will see in the NFL (though he may have a competent run game to help him out). 5.0 ypa and 1 TD / 2 INT aint good
A separate G5 playoff only makes permanent what is already mostly a reality- G5 is much closer to the FCS than it is the P5. You might as well just join the G5 and FCS and let the P5 be "FBS"
I don't anything about this kid but this is my ideal college player- ranked in that top 50-100 range where it feels like you'll likely get a killer player in years 2-4 but the NBA isn't gonna come sniffing until they absolutely blow up
Truscott is the kind of guy I wish we had 6-10 of in every year's roster. Talented enough to be draftable, but no so much that the NHL is trying to rip the guy off campus. Give me AHL guys all day (mixed in with a few top end guys to be clear)
I'm not sure how to put this eloquently...but the tea leaves on the QB room are pretty bad when you consider no one is ever negative about spring practice. A lot of the praises are mixed in with stuff like can't read defenses, throwing picks, etc.
Well said. 2021 was maybe the most cathartic win Michigan has had in generations, but people could easily write off that season as an aberration like MSU making the CFP a few years prior if we hadn't built off it
Winning decisively in Columbus in '22 was Michigan football announcing loudly that '21 was no mistake. Maybe the game that made CFP nationally realize this program was for real.
I find the NCAA giving these guys a show cause to be fairly absurd given the accusations here. Maybe the guys all just said yeah whatever because most of them are in the NFL? Because if this stuff gets you a one year show cause then a lot of guys should be banned from CFB for life
So this is the end of the (probably) Dudek BS right? I'm surprised the former coaches cooperated. If I went to the NFL, I'd stop answering the phone about cheeseburger violations and zoom practices during covid
Of course none of them care. The idea that the NFL would somehow uphold NCAA sanctions was pure internet conspiracy fever dream. No one in the NFL cares what Stallions did
At this point one has to ask why not a single other person has been implicated in this scheme. Stallions was busted every which way you can be...and six months later they haven't been able to tie it anyone else. You'd sure think if this was some program wide conspiracy that the PI would've at least been able to link a name to Stallions by now
Michigan has 15 frozen fours since 1990 and 2 titles. Denver has 7 frozen fours and five titles in the same window. Thats just unfair. Michigan hitting at the same rate wouldve won 9 or 10 titles since ‘90
I maintain 2 years of a 1st rounder does not qualify for a michigan hockey summer. Michigan has not had a true michigan hockey summer in years. The OHL used to be the bane of our existence and honestly it feels like we’ve had a ton of success lately
I do wish we got another year but 2 years is probably median for 1st rounders lately. Best of luck Frank
It was frustrating to watch the young, super NHL talented team play killer defense and then burn you the other way. Never felt like we played defense like that in '21 or '22. Also frustrating that we just couldnt buy a goal - if anyone did fancy stats for college hockey, it felt like the expected goals for Michigan should've been at least 1 or 2 given the chances down low...then you're playing a great game and BC comes down and gets a series of rube goldberg deflections to get goal #2. They played a good game and just had zero puck luck last night to give them any help
Bummer to not even get one in the net. The team played far better than the 4-0 score suggests. Really tough for Barzo who I thought had a great tournament
All I'd hoped for was to get hot and make the frozen four. Hopefully a lot of the guys come back next year and this team will be really good
They've honestly played a really good game. BC is just that good and cashed in on their chances and Michigan hasn't had any puck luck despite having a bunch of good looks. Some better bounces and this is a close game
Michigan hockey and basketball have both had terrible luck of getting really close to winning titles and falling short. Basketball is like 1-6 in title games and hockey only has 2 titles in 15 frozen fours since Red got us back
How stacked the football team has been shows how stacked you gotta be sometimes to get to the top.
I dont think its coping (maybe you didn't mean it that way). This was s omething of a bridge team between Mel's time and before Nar has gotten to get recruiting going in full swing. To get hot late and hang another Frozen Four banner is awesome

A good coach like Rhule will may get them back to a top 15ish program, but they won't make a national championship game this century

Football going 1-11 with all the good news basketball has been getting lately
(We will still beat Cryin Ryan)
Feels like Milton will probably bounce around for 5+ seasons just because someone will keep carrying him as QB3 hoping he'll turn into an NFL starter with all the physical tools he has
I was surprised Kalen King went late in the 7th. Weren't people hyping him as a possible 1st round pick a year or two ago?
Eh. Harbaugh's resume before even starting at Michigan was still way way better than Franklin's is now.
Hopefully a good landing spot for JJ. Not sure how he’ll do but I wouldnt be shocked if he ended up being the best QB is this class

Very very good pick up. Team should be very good again next year. Hopefully one of our goalies hits
Cant wait to hear about how Wolf still lost some credits transferring in from Yale
Hello son would you care to graduate early and roll this second? You could be on the 2 deep for this spring game if you say yes
Yes
But also he’s a giant douche so Im enjoying him being on the receiving end of it for once

It should make you feel better that Jim was highly likely to go to the NFL after our title whether Dudek-gate or Signgate happened or not
NCAA enforcement staff after closing yet out a harrowing cheeseburger investigation:
I apparently don't know how to embed an image here anymore

Absolutely dumb as bricks by Denard. Could be an absolute career ender for him
With Noah West now transferring to Ferris, I think this might be the first time I've seen programs just trade goalies like that.

FWIW he seems like he was clearly the better of Ferris' two goalies this year to the point that you gotta ask why they were splitting time at all
Stein 21GP 2.90GAA .910
Giesbrecht 17GP 3.87GAA .886
29th nationally in sv% despite being on a dreadful team seems like it might mean something
Dont we have a goalie commit somewhere? I'm out of the loop on recruiting lately
Yeah youd think on just chance and puck luck we wouldve had at least 3 or 4. 2/15 hurts
Michigan has 15 frozen fours since 1990 and 2 titles. Denver has 7 frozen fours and five titles in the same window. Thats just unfair. Michigan hitting at the same rate wouldve won 9 or 10 titles since ‘90
There were some tweets out there saying Brindley was leaning toward returning. Hopefully thats true

How soon till we get to find out which Buckeye booster paid for that PI?

Yeah but draft talent doesnt always equate to the best college hockey team and sometimes the puck bounces stupidly
Bummer to not even get one in the net. The team played far better than the 4-0 score suggests. Really tough for Barzo who I thought had a great tournament

Casey hasn't had a good night. Seems like he's trying so hard to make something happen that he's constantly getting the puck taken from him
