Something about all this Hatch medical discussion really bothers me. We should all hope that he stays on a real scholarship and recovers to eventually contribute in meaningful minutes, even if that is extremely unlikely. We already have excellent depth going into next year. You are all advocating that we tell Austin that the chances of fulfilling his dream are too slim that he might as well just give up. And you want to replace him with a 1-and-done?
What the hell is wrong with you people?
We are rooting for a bunch of 18-22 year olds playing a ball game, representing a university. I would much rather have Austin Hatch on the team I support, even if his chances of playing meaningful time are 1 in a million, than some mercenary who is using the team as a pit stop.

""will be the end of the college sports system"
Either the big ten administration is trying to stick their heads in the sand (sadly possible) or they are trying to get people to consider paying players by showing them the logical conclusion of a pure amateur model.

solid verbal is awesome.
i used to think they were biased against michigan. but they correctly predicted how shitty this year would be, while i was fooled by everyone guaranteeing 8-9 wins.
i think ty knows his stuff more than dan.

I didn't give a shit about sports at all until my junior year of college, when my roommates convinced me that this new guy named Rich Rod was gonna take us to the top. It just seems like the more I care about Michigan football, the worse the team gets.

|36 weeks 6 days ago||they'd still be student||
they'd still be student athletes. the games wouldn't be "exams" or "quizzes".
but football classes could have teachers, classrooms, and exams. michigan would have to be very very transparent about the grades and credits, else people would suspect that we were trying to keep athletes eligible by giving them easy As.
|36 weeks 6 days ago||why don't we take this even further||
offer athletes classes like "film study of the ball screen", "option routes", and "the tampa 2 defense".
i bet we'd have a lot more viable alums for the coaching searches. and players wouldn't have to spend 18 hours a day doing school and practice.

Does Schlissel really think Brandon did a good job? All that "thank you for your service" from S and Hackett seemed like they were trying to avoid an atmosphere of a public execution.

your tuition numbers are also from the 90s.
i just can't think of any reason why you would make up numbers, other than to add a veneer of authority to your opinion.
however, i agree that the phrase "don't bite the hand that feeds you" isn't appropriate for this situation. the "us vs them" mentality is cancerous to our school. brandon and hoke are directly responsible for that mentality.

so much wrong with that calculation
1. all scholarships are charged at out of state rates
2. revenue sports pay for scholarships of non-revenue athletes
3. doesn't even consider concessions, TV rights, apparel
but good job adding pointless numbers and calculations to your post to make it sound like you have more credibility

if he's trolling, then point out where he's wrong instead of referencing that god damn nickname.
look, i don't want peppers to get screwed by the NCAA, and personally, i think the amateurism stuff is really dumb. many here are dismissing this issue without thinking clearly.

This is why we love your website Brian. Thank you.
I need to retract a previous comment of mine (yesterday) regarding WD. I said "There are two places that the email could exist, if real. Brandon's sent mailbox and alleged recipient's inbox. Since the kid immediately started backtracking instead of trying to get the other piece of proof, its clear he's just an unhinged fan that decided to make shit up."
I incorrectly deduced that Brian looking for help in verifying the email, followed by the FOIA response, followed by WD claiming he was "duped" - meant that Brian was not able to verify and WD was trying to save face. Sorry WD, you didn't deserve to be attacked personally. I hope that these events have not dissuaded you from pursuing a career in journalism.

I also used to work for an accounting firm. I don't think I intentionally deleted an email in the 3 years that I worked there. However, I think you are right, since whenever a client got in deep regulatory trouble, our lawyers would hound us to make sure that we didn't delete any emails. They wouldn't bother if deletion wasn't permanent.

At most places to work, they are interested in archiving as much email as possible.
