Great analysis but I think some of his short comings all come from the line problems, the passing play calling and lack of a running game. The jury is still out if Devin can be elite but he shows flashes which as a fan make me hopefull.
If it weren't for Devin this year we would've been fucked. I know he's made some bad plays but the kid had to put this offense on his back this whole season. When the kid has some time and a hint of a running game he's pretty damn good. I love Denard but Devin is just as valuable if not more than Denard was. No disrespect to Denard.
Proud of the players . Fuck the no moral victories bullshit. I'm sure the kids are upset and heartbroken they didn't win but don't think for a minute that the close loss isn't better than a blow out. A loss isn't tragic at this point. Sorry we are still in transition as a program. That's not an excuse it's a fact. Every reasonable fan knew it would be a tough year. I'm definitely disappointed in the way we lost some of the games but it's about the loss record I thought it would be before the season . I'm not a Borges fan but Hopefully Hoke learns from his mistakes and I'm probably one of the only fans that thinks Gardner is not at fault this year .
The kids played great. Gardner played great . It sucks that Michigan lost but I think the kids played with intensity and poise. I can't be disappointed in the kids. And fuck any asshole that puts this loss on any of the players.
Qb is not the problem! Give Gardner protection . I'm sure Morris is good but no reasonable fan thinks we are in a better position in this game with Morris in there.
Forget realistic I've decided to live in a fantasy world this weekend so here it goes.
Michigan 31 OSU 29. With an OSU failed 2 point conversion in the first half coming back to bite Urban Meyer in the butt.
I'm not sure anything on offenses is going to work but I should like to see Michigan run a two minute offense right off the bat. Short routes, screens, quick hitting runs, qb sneak on first down if it's there . Anything to get positive yards on first down without the risk of of huge losses. Put Devin in shotgun where he doesn't have to drop back and set his feet. When they do throw down field either throw it away or arm punt it. If we win the toss go on defense first and hope for the defense to make a big play. At the very least the defense will get to rest at halftime thru however long our second half offensive possession lasts.
.
You act as though Devin holding on to the ball to long or running backwards is the root of the offenses problem or can't be fixed. It can! The coaches should have sat Devin on the bench for a drive or two. Let him know it's unacceptable. Hold him accountable. But you know why Borgess or Hoke didn't? Because Borges just calls plays and sees what happens and a few of those times Devin holding on to the ball paid off in a big play allowing Michigan to score and win taking pressure off of both coaches. If Gardner is the problem of the offense then that is also lack of coaching not having your 5 star quarterback ready to take over for him. I think most fans knew this year would be tough. I actually thought the team could lose up to 3-4 games this year, but it's the way they lost them and lack of improvement.
I'm sorry but Hoke should not be compared to Bo. I think Hoke is one hell of a nice guy and I'm holding out hope that he will turn this program around. Bo was a strong, stubborn sob. His team knew that, opposing coaches knew that and the fans knew that. Bo didn't pussy foot around. Bo spoke confidently and believed whole heartedly in what he said. I'm sorry but I don't see Hoke in the same light. I know the coaches press conference isn't important in of itself. But too many times I see Hoke pause and look lost, stumbling through answering some of the questions almost thinking what would Bo or maybe it's Dave Brandon approve of ? He doesn't demand the same respect Bo did.
No man is more important than the team. That includes coaches too. I'm hoping Hoke does the right thing at the end of the season and honestly evaluates the coaching staff and makes changes or not, based on what's best for the team, the team, the team. If he keeps certain members of the staff because they're buddies then Hoke is not about the team therefore he is not a " Michigan Man ".
I agree with you 100 percent on Gardner being held accountable. I've been thinking this all year. At some point in the season he shouldn't be making the same mistakes. I don't see anything wrong with benching.him for a series or two. Of course it's too late in the season now.
