Meh

I'll take a company that has helped develop youth hockey in this area for 40 years over some bank or airline company any day. Not to mention there will be a practice rink used for youth hockey there as well... http://www.districtdetroit.com/news/practice-ice-makes-perfect-for-little-caesars-youth-hockey-at-new-arena

Actually the city of Detroit

Actually the city of Detroit is not paying anything for this new arena. The tax payer bonds are coming from the state (and TIF collected by the DDA). If people are opposed to that than they should peition to get rid of the DDA. But the city is basically getting a new arena without using any money from the general fund. A lot of these new arenas (like the one in Milwaukee and Sacramento) actually use city money and that's not the case in this situation.

Here's a full explanation on the funding:

Yep.... it's a corporate deal

Sports naming-rights insiders have previously told Crain's that the Little Caesars name makes a lot of sense because of cross-branding. The pizza chain gets national name-branding exposure while likely getting a discount. Sports industry insiders previously told Crain's they expected any Red Wings arena branding deal to be on par with the most recent National Hockey League naming-rights contracts, which pay around $4 million annually. Others say it could command as much as $7 million to $10 million a year. The deal announced Thursday averages $6.25 million a season, but ultimately is $120 million in total. Little Caesars will pay Olympia Development the fee annually, and it's entirely a corporate deal for the pizza chain, meaning the independent franchisees are not involved.

Or the LCA or something like that

As a Cavs fan and I never say Quicken Loans Arena, we just call it the Q.

i'm pretty sure all the

i'm pretty sure all the statues from the Joe will be brought to the new arena. The concourse at the new place is supposed to be three time larger than the Joe so there should e plenty of room. I actually hope they make statues from all the retired numbers,

It has national advertising value

Bingo!

20 years of that, even if Chris or Marian decide to sell the sports teams down the road.

It was an idiotic made mos likely by Chris Illitch who thus far hasn't shown a fraction ofthe busines acumen that his father had.

Actually, Chris has shown far better business acumen than his dad (LC has become a $5 billion company under his watch). Mike might be great at being a sports fan and trying to win at all cost, but that's not very smart for the wallet. The Tigers have lost money more often than not and he still hasn't been able to win a World Series. It's like flishing money down the toilet if you don't end up winning a championship.
