Personally, I'd rather win out and have OSU go to the championship game (and lose) than MSU. That's just how it plays out on my priority of hate. And I'd rather have PSU go than either of them. Wow, that really hurts.
Seems like teams with better records have a better chance of getting into the playoff. So, you'd want to send to the Championship game the team with the best record.
You can disincentivize pancake OOC games by making sure the committee considers strength of schedule in picking the 4 playoff teams. Hello OSU/Penn State last year, Wisconsin's low-rating this year, trouble with Pac 10 teams, etc.
So, you're right, but from the Big10's perspective, not sure net net it works.

Also, strangely enough, if I"m reading the tie-breakers right it's better to lose to worse teams, not better teams. A loss to the last place team in the division hurts you less than any other loss.
Isn't it weird that overall record is so low on the tie-breaking protocol? You'd think the Big10 would want the team with the best overall record going to the Championship game, given competition for the playoff with other conferences, etc.?
The "camera lost sight" point is a good one. If that's the case, you can't overturn it, because he might have regained possession during that point, and the camera couldn't have seen it. So, not conclusive or indisputable or whatever the word is.
I love this original poster -- because the ball was SLIGHTLY loose. C'mon guys, it was only slightly loose! It's a touchdown! He was only SLIGHTLY short of the endzone. Like a foot at most. It's a touchdown!
I love the TV announcers only a little bit less, with their befuddlement. He had the ball when he was out of the end zone, in the field of play. And then he didn't have the ball. Maybe only SLIGHTLY. And then he went out of bounds, without possession. Unfortunately, he touched the pylon when he didn't have the ball, which means he was in the end zone, out of bounds But without the ball. So, it's like the ball was fumbled, and then it went out of bounds in the end zone. That's a touchback.

We win out impressively.
OSU wins our division with three total losses.
OSU thumps Wisconsin.
We get picked for the playoff. Because other things happen elsewhere. And ratings.
Pretty sad, I guess.

Well, that's true, but not completely.

It doesn't work for us because we have two losses in our division, I think.
