Mattison's company line answer

I was there, too, and I had many of the same experiences.  Jon Falk really has some amazing stories to tell (nothing new there).  Someone did ask Mattison about Alabama, and he gave a pretty standard non-answer about how they're working on it and how Alabama is a great game, it'll be a great test for our guys, etc.  Someone else asked him if he gets nervous before games, and he said it was more anxious/excited, since he knows they're prepared as well as they can.  He also said that his most fulfilling game last year was Illinois, as that was the game the defense really came together and played Michigan defense.  I can see how he is such an incredible recruiter--he is so genuine and makes you feel like you are the most important person in the room.  (FWIW, he also had some good Ray Lewis stories!)

Great Picture

That's a Great picture.  But where is the pic from the girl kneeling down in the endzone?!  I hope she remember to take her lens cap off...

Kiss Cam

So a few weeks ago, while watching the scoreboard testing on the stadium cam, I happened to see them messing around with a heart-shaped graphic, or transition or whatever you call it.  First thing I thought was, Oh God, please don't let this be a kiss-cam!

NONONONONONO!!!  I may just have to tackle the camerman if I see him...

I was thinking the same

I was thinking the same thing.   But here's my question.  They keep throwing out the 6,000 additional seats, but how many rows does that equate to?  Anyone know how many seats are in the last row of each section in the end zone?

Also from the Press Release,

Also from the Press Release, the said they would install "Two Lighthouse Impact 16 video displays".  Seeing as we just watched them install a 4 x 4 grid, I'm going to assume they are done.

GM!!!

My sister was HA's roommate, and fellow flag (initials LE).

5 yards back of the kick

The rule change doesn't say you are allowed to be 5 yards offsides.  It says that the kicking team can only live up a maximum of 5 yards behind the ball for the runup.  This is to limit the guys that start from 15-20 yards back and get up a full head of steam at the kickoff.  They are basically trying to slow everyone down to make it less dangerous...

Not sure how the scanners work

I guess another question is do all the extraneous 'spectators' (media, band members, zamboni drivers, fireworks crew, bomber pilots, etc.)  have some sort of scannable ticket?  Or are they just on a list that the university provides.  Which wouldn't be very easy for Guinness to certify...

From the Guinness Web Site

The University announced an unofficial crowd of 113,411 during the third period. To better the GWR mark of 77,803 set at this year’s IIHF World Championships, however, it was necessary to provide scanned evidence of the bar codes on each spectator's ticket. At the time of the announcement, 85,451 tickets had been scanned, with the numbers continuing to increase, but more than enough to certify a new record

While we still await final documention to award an official final number, the spectacle of the event can’t be denied

More Trophy Names...

Why give Purdue and Wisconsin sole ownership of the QB and RB trophies???

That I can live with.

WTF - Stagg/Paterno

Wow.  They just keep piling on the crap, don't they!

Ugh!!!

Ugh!!!

Run your best play

Agree, agree, agree.  Whenever I see a 3rd and short come up, and its at a critical point in the game and you really, really need to get the first down, I'm of the mindset that you run your best play with your best player.

Just looking back at the UFR's for Iowa and MSU, Robinson ran the QB Lead Draw 14 times.  Only once out of those 14 did it go for negative yards, and I think that was on an all out blitz.  Plus there's always the option to fake the draw and throw to the receiver.

I hope he knows.

Seeing as how the guy right next to Lloyd Brady is in fact wearing a Lloyd Brady shirt, I would assume he knows.  If not, then he's absolutely clueless.

Too late

But that was pretty cool, for a few minutes...

Gigawatts

How many gigwatts does Dilithium produce?

Great analysis as always.

Looking at this at non-dilithium speeds, it seems like Robinson would've been better served to bounce this one outside of the Hopkins block, away from the flowing pursuit.  I know the theory is to run right at Jones, to negate his speed, and if Dorrestein had held his guy a few seconds more, there would've been more space.  But once Robinson ran past Schilling, he should've gone into improvise mode and hit the turbo button towards the sidelines.

Having not watched the replay, I'm interested to read the UFR, and see if there are more plays like this. Also, it seemed like Robinson should've kept it a lot more, instead handing off to the RB going up the middle.   I don't know if it was bad zone-reads, or if the defense forced it to happen.

Two Words

Red Berenson

(Minus that little part where he pissed on the library...)

Yes, I'm a long time lurker

And I'm not blaming Lewan for anything.  I love having that kind of piss and vinager on the O-Line!  All I was trying to point out was that the Indiana dude probably took a cheap shot at Lewan after the TD because he was getting his butt whooped on that last drive (and probably the whole game...)

Getting back at Lewan

On the 2nd or 3rd play of our last drive, Lewan is getting up off the ground and throws an ever so subtle little kick to the Indiana player's (I think #44) leg.  On both the next plays, Lewan does some MAJOR holding on the same guy, which I'm suprised were not called.  He pulled the guys jersey off his pads on one of them.  That resulted in the guy whipping Lewan into Robinson, and I'm assuming that was what instigated the penalties after the TD.
