Offensive minded coach, best…

Offensive minded coach, best WR in the NFL, adequate OL, have a veteran to take the beatings in year 1 ahead of him but not a veteran who is going to be around long to compete against etc.   A lot better situation than the others although Chicago has a chance to make a big jump if they hit on their picks.

Lions gave up a lot to move…

Lions gave up a lot to move up.  Every trade value chart said that it was more appropriate to give up a mid to late 4th.

That said if Arnold is an All Pro no one will care.   And we don't know if he is the best corner, the guy from Toledo was taken 2 picks in front of him.  And some guy in the 3rd may turn out to be the best in 2 years.

But he is a good Christian…

But he is a good Christian boy - aren't you aware of his public persona?

Boy good questionHenne was a…

Boy good question

Henne was a 2nd rounder.  He started his age 24, 25, and 28 seasons.  Career backup from there  - 7 seasons, played 17 games total in those 7 years.

His bank account is a winner that's for sure.

Reminds me a bit of rich man's Jim Sorgi who backed up Manning in Indy for 6 years  - greatest job in the world, get paid and do nothing while traveling the US and having fun.  Guy threw like 150 passes in his career.

Yes look at the 21 draft. …

Yes look at the 21 draft.  Lawrence was "generational" - best QB since Luck but got stuck with Urbz.  After that every other QB drafted in the FIRST round has been booted by his team in 3 years!!

  • Wilson (2)
  • Lance (3) <---awful pick anyhow
  • Fields (11)
  • Jones (15)

They literally have two…

They literally have two safeties on the roster lol.   Campbell literally said "they are not done at safety" a few weeks ago.  The veteran guys in the market want to get paid and not be a backup.

Guys there are injuries in the NFL! One of our starters has 6 games of starter experience!  Someone like Joseph they won't be able to afford on contract 2, with all the $$ coming down the pike for Hutch, Laporta, (hopefully) McNeil, and Goff.  Branch too, and probably Gibbs.

You can never have enough of secondary players!  Especially cheap ones on first year contracts.

Yep! Glasgow had a great…

Yep! Glasgow had a great year but you never know when a guy tails off in the 30s.  Don't see how they retain Decker with the salary cap unless he is willing to do one of those 3 year deals under mkt which is really 2 years and you know you are being cut at age 32 but it gives you 2 years to hang with your buddies Ragnow and Glasgow.   Sewell being paid as the top left tackle in the league but playing right tackle long term wouldn't make sense.

Also Ragnow is a friggin warrior, when you read about what he has been going thru injury wise the past few years but he is a retirement risk really any year with how his body has been wrecked.  The guys like the one from Duke and Oregon who have that center / guard flexibility would be great for the Lions - if only they had three first/second round picks :D

Lions fans for first time have to confront what these elite franchies like Steelers Ravens Packers have to deal with - you need to pick and choose who you keep and bloodlet the rest and find cheap replacements on first contract deals for all but 6-8 guys on the roster.

Plenty were mocked in 20s…

Plenty were mocked in 20s across many authors.  Most were guys who could be center and guard hybrids.

ZZ was never one of them.   Even pre injury he wasn't considered in that echelon when the early mocks were out last fall.  But yeah you are going to get a steady 10 year veteran ala Backus type (diff position) I think with Zinter.

Their CB room empties out in…

Their CB room empties out in a year - this overhaul was for a year.  Arnold only guy guaranteed to be back in a year.

And a lot of Campbell talk of hybriding Branch as a safety this offseason.  They wanted to not inundate him last year with 2 positions but he sounds a bit like the Chauncy plan - play both.

Mikey is both team captain material and a pure play maker.  One of the current starting safeties has all of 6 games of starting material on film. (a good 6 games but just that) and no depth behind it.  One gets hurt you move Branch there and Mikey into slot etc.  Probably moot as I don't see him falling even to late 2nd round but you never know.

Bigger picture you gotta keep recycling young guys in as the way they are structured with massive spend on OL, WR1, QB, and soon DL & TE you gotta have "cheap" positions too and it looks like it's got to be the secondary and linebackers with how the team is built.  Not going to be able to afford a CB1 on the free agent market.

I would like to see them…

I would like to see them drop out of the 2nd and pick up additional picks.  After pick 61 they don't draft until 100 picks later.  Can't see them moving up in the 2nd as they don't have draft capital of value unless we are talking 2025 inventory.   If they can translate that late 2nd to an early to mid 3rd and an early 4th or something like that it would be positive.   Someone like Zinter or equal interior OL value could drop to them in early 4th for example.

Even with our great GM 5th to 7th round picks are generally low probability to pan out.   Last year are Colby Sorsdal and Antoine Green, prior year Rodrigo which was a camp phenom but really a special team player on a real team, Houston and Chase Lucas, and first year was Jermar Jefferson.  So out of those 3 drafts you have a 7 game run by Houston and cameo by Rodrigo on a really bad roster at the time.  Sorsdal was a developmental pick from a small school, so we'll see if he becomes anything in time.

And yes I know Tom Brady, Brock Purdy, and a host of guys who turn into stars as UDFAs or late rounders but it's not the probability vs guys in the 2nd thru 4th.

Hand over a NFC champion game team to a guy without a single throw in the NFL.

Word is they took Ishbia's money (ok I am using Ishbia but their "collective") in December to stay, and still walked in April.  It's really gross - except it happened @ MSU so it's cool.  Obviously they have been tampered with the whole time and I guess they are two timing it.  What a culture Mork built!

Cool - a smaller Charles Matthews.  Will be nice to have people interested in defending again.

Standing at 6-foot-10,…

Standing at 6-foot-10, Walters' greatest strength is his shooting ability. He shot just under 40 percent from three for the year, even including a mid-year slump where he struggled in the middle of SEC play. One of his best games came in a home overtime win against Florida, where he scored 14 points off the bench on four made threes. Walters' biggest knock his first year was his defense, which kept him off the floor in some bigger spots despite his shooting prowess.

Looks like he hit a freshman wall and my first thought was a summer of Camp Sanderson would do him well but then I just stared at the wall blinking rapidly for a few minutes.

The staff that developed those players are all gone.  Pretty easy to negative recruit on that.

Also see we will pay you more than them straight out of HS.  That helps.

Moore, Carr, Underwood.That…

Moore, Carr, Underwood.

That said I do not begrudge QBs or WRs from not choosing Michigan.  Underwood is going to an offense that just had a Heisman winner and guaranteed top 3 pick (well as guaranteed as you could ask from mocks)

Look at JJ -  prob the best college QB we have ever had and the only major question on him essentially is "not enough data points" despite being a 2 year starter.  It's the offense.  If JJ was in the LSU offense for 1 year we'd at least know just about everything he was capable of in terms of college.

Similarly throw Roman Wilson into the Washington or Oregon offenses and he is probably a guaranteed first rounder.  Instead... not enough data points.  Odunze had 92 catches and 1600 yards alone this year.  Polk 62 for 1159.  Their 3rd WR has about as many catches as Wilson @ 45.  Roman had 48.

Conversely the top OL, TE and RBs should be flocking here in droves.
