Taking a look at the numbers...

According to financial statements that were submitted by bowl committees back in 2008-2009 it seems like the bowls were not making that much money. I think the original post was commenting on the fact that it can cost a school quit a bit of money to participate in bowl games, not so much a "conspiracy theory" of bowl committees profiting from the kids.

Who are you kidding....

Just ask the FSU marching band how important it is for the band to get the best seats in the house...

comparison

I'm not sure what wolverine you would compare him to, but first person I thought of was Desean Jackson. A bit taller, but fast skinny kids can be productive...

curious

I'm waiting for the book to arrive from Amazon, but I assume the author does not address the hiring process and why we didn't "offer" Miles the job?

agree

I'll say this, I appreciate your "Three and Out" plug on the dear diary section and will most likely purchase the book this weekend. Sure I don't know all the details, but I know he wasn't good for the school anymore. I also think some of you "true" fans take it a bit far sometimes. I don't know or care to meet either of you, but if anyone wants to call me disloyal/disgraceful in all aspects of life, we are going to have problems.

sad

I find this website to be the only place to obtain reliable information on the team, but its at the expense of loud mouth fans like yourself. The fact that your buddy goes off on his temper tantrum about being disgraceful, but then calls out someone he never meet before on an online chat room, is like the pot calling the kettle black. I honestly took his comment to heart, but after reading a history of both of your post on other threads, I realize that I have more self control then you may suggest.

Bottom line, my booing was directed at RR (im not sure where you're getting the kids from)and I also made the comment that it doesnt solve anything, however, I will not listen to a bunch of old loud mouths deny that they NEVER expressed frustration in public about where RR was taking the team (at the big house or not).

ridiculous...

Its idiots like mtzlblk and section1 who turn a comment from a college student into a personal attack on a chat room (of all places). Who are you to cast the first stone and label someone disgraceful or disloyal in all aspects of there life?

Someone that serves their country overseas doesnt have the priveledge to get season tickets and attend every game. Someone serving their country overseas doesnt have the privilege to sit infront of Fox News all day and mutter opinions about other people. Disloyal is the last thing I'am... Its comments like these I would expect from the school down south.

Assume: ass-u-me

Fans that weren't season ticket holders being the true problem and I'am some sort of Freep lover? Interesting assumptions... really, it sounds like opinions that would come from the mouth of a fan expressing his/her disapproval by booing.

BOOOOOO

I spent plenty of time booing RR from a seat at big house or home because of what he was doing to the program.

Ignorant comments like “We didn’t get stupid overnight and all that when we lost a few games.”  or the complience problems with practice. Sure, booing doesnt help the cause, but giving the guy another year would've made things worse in the long run.

Molk has a right to be frustrated and has always been open about it wasnt the Michigan he was expecting to walk into... We may not understand what its like to be in the players shoes, but we too have experience hurt and frustration to a degree. The lack of confidence was spreading like a wild fire until we found the right man job and had leaders like Martin, Molk, and the rest of the seniors that brought this program back to what we all expect.

Sorry B

As much as I hate state, lets be honest, Georgia and VT are good teams, but they are not the same team. They may have been in the same situation at the end of the year, but VT plays in a weak ACC conference. If state fans want something to cry about It should be the fact that there's two ACC teams in a bcs game.

bump

"Players reflect the personality of their coach.  Koger and Van Bergan answered questions like mature adults, while Cousins answered questions like a petulant child."

Which is why I cant stand state fans!!!

no question

living in ACC country right now all you hear is how VT has really been the only valid football program in the ACC during the last 10 years. No question that ACC has been garbage the past 10 years, but I haven't seen an overall mess of a conference than what I saw this year. VT had problems against ecu, miami, and barely pulled off a victory over DUKE!!! B1G had success against the ACC in basketball and I'm looking forward to see another bashing courtesy of the maize and blue!

the kid is a wall...

The video does a great job of showing kids running into a wall and others getting tossed around like bean bags! With that said he would do a great job plowing people over to open up holes, but only caught 1 or 2 plays of pass protection.... Big guys that play with s lot of passion are always welcome at the big house!

5 years is fair...

He left football because of his health and family. I look at it now that neither of those concerns matter that much to him, so he's putting them aside to make a run to the NFL or those concerns will eventually come back to haunt him, causing him to retire again.

Curious to know

it looks like Drake didnt produce much of anything against CC. Was that because of poor blocking, poor running, poor coaching, or does CC really have a shot at winning it this year?

not fast?

If there's any question about speed, turn to Fred Jackson

Dunn update...

Any word on where he stands today?

Thank Novak and GR as well...

Good decision for Mitch as he wont have to compete for playing time, our offense fits well with his style of play, and he'll be playing under a staff that has proven what they can do for player development . Also, good to see that he'll have close friends playing by his side, so we know that this class will already have great chemistry from the start! Can wait to see him play in maize and blue!!!

school in columbus

So with the most recent debacle in Columbus, any word from recruits that have been on the fence? It almost sounds a lot like Miami (without the large dollar amounts), which in Miami case, means a loss of institutional control?!?!

potential commits...

Is there anyword from the potential commits, aside from the Thomas verbal?

Great report

Thanks for the report. Im down in NC and was amped up the day before. The entire day I thought about what the atomsphere had to of been like in Ann Arbor. The stadium looked beautiful at night, the crowd was electric, and emotions were insurmontable. No question that we will be talking about this game for a long time!

Dunn

Anyone know if Dunn made the trip up? Encouraging to see that he now has the option to play alongside family!

Thanks Mgoblog

I started visiting this blog almost 2 months ago. Im in NC and cant be apart of the festivities up there, however with the live chat, coverage, and feedback MGOBLOG provides is insurmountable (just like Denards performance in the 4th quarter)! Even with the addition of the muppets is hilarious!

Anyways, thanks again for the hardwork and its great to be Wolverine!

Dr. Denard

The guy never gave up... he's what Michigan Football is all about, no questions about it

I dont get your point...

"Some posters here seem to think that if we just don't turn the ball over we can just back our way into wins. "

I think a majority of these post also had comments regarding his improvements in the pocket and his decision making . I didnt read anywhere or get the impression that if we dont turn the ball over we are going to win everytime. Last time I checked Denard had two interceptions agains Illionis and two against Purdue and we won both of those games.

As someone new to the blog, I enjoy the UFR reviews, but I think we all need to be fair and acknowledge this was the first 3 quarters of the year, under a new system. The team reacted well, however WMU is over and its time to prepare for ND. I think we have the right staff that will continue to develop to team and make smart in game adjustments when needed.

Either way

I understand that the team has a lot to improve. However, either way you look at it the words "disappointment" next to "Denard" shouldnt be used in the same sentence, especially after a game like that.

UFR: I think its optimistic to....

"But… yeah, when people were saying Robinson was a disappointment they were not wrong."

The article was great until your last paragraph. Im not sure why we want to start talks about how Denard isnt going to fit in the new offense. This was the first game of the season, under a new offense, new coach, under 40 offensive plays and was a game that was cut short.

He's still is going to need to work on timing and footwork, but the fact of the matter is that he looked a lot better in the pocket and didnt through any interceptions. Everyone still needs a lot of work, but ask yourself is it really fair to crucify the guy under this new scheme and with the game getting cut short?

The kid has the right attitude, the right coaches, the right teammates, and with the numbers he can post I truly think its optimistic to say we dont need to worry about Denard after week 1.

According to...

"Though his competition level was not good he has the track chops to prove that speed you see is not an illusion."

Is this according to Fred Jackson?

Pizza Pizza

Are you serious? You know that Dave Brandon would totally back the advertisement at the Big House... Dominos Pizza... and regarding the mascot dilemma... I think we know his plans for that!

a little R&R

I would agree... however it shows on his face when he didnt get sleep from the night before... which by the press videos, it seems like he's had some long nights piecing together this team!

Have you heard

Have you read up on any of the articles surrounding the allegations? Not only is ESPN downplaying this coverage by not having it be a main headline, but the article ESPN draws up is nothing vs what Yahoo! and other sports sites are listing. This guy is throwing Miami under the bus, for what looks to be the biggest case in NCAA history! Censorship at its best!

buckeyes

which would explain why the buckeyes case is getting more attention than what happen at UNC... a bit of a payback for that national championship

Diamond & Kalis

I didnt see if Diamond showed up to the BBQ at the Big House, but I would imagine both him and Kalis would get along great... two smart kids that love to compete and do damage. Anyone know if he's talking to any of the 2012 recruits?

grades

Michigan wouldnt take a risk on the kid if they were a big issue, but doesnt anyone know if its going to be a real concern?

aka

Death Penalty

Unity

You know that this class is going to be doing some big things when they are already rallying behind each other like this and havent played a game together. I cant wait to see them at the big house!!!

lebowski achievers

Donny, you're out of your element!

AA to AAA

Now if Hoke can only change the countrys AA rating back to a AAA rating the world would be a better place.

no question

"It's not a question of whether Al Borges can utilize Denard.  It's more a question of what opponents will choose to stop?  Will they stop the run up the middle to get burned on bootleg rollouts and passing?  Or will they devote critical LB and safety resources to stoppind Denard"

Thats exactly it. If I were a defensive coordinator I wouldnt know who to cover or what to expect.

I think it was/will be more of an issue of what well happen on defense vs our offensive game plan. No question that we fixed that with hiring Mattison!

Dont get me wrong

I've been critical of his decision making, however thats completely different than his play making abilities.

I dont think its fair that we put all this pressue on the kid during his freshman and sophmore year and say he hasnt shown a willingness to improve his decision making process. The kid didnt have help from his coaching staff and he was running an offense that was completely new to us.

I guess my point earlier was that he's a defensive coordinators nightmare. How can you prepare your team for a pro-style offense when you have a quarterback that slips and slides around the field like Denard?

New offense

The new offense "should" help balance both sides of the field, but from the little details Borges gave, it sounds like a lot of focus is on Denards playmaking ability. As exciting as he was in the spread last year, I really think he's going to confuse the defense and create more plays this year. Defensive coordinators wont know what to expect from him and even if they did, he's already 10 yds ahead of you! If they get his timing down, work on his footwork and pushing the pocket, no question he's going to put up some awesome numbers!

from the sounds of it...

I like his game plan "the three things you need to hold your hat on" and how he's changing the teams attitude. However, knowing how much work needs to be done, I wouldnt be surprised if he starts his first year with 7 or 8  wins.

I agree

I agree that adding a RB simply because he's a RB would be a waste of a spot for the 2012 class, but instead of writing off the RB completely, I would imagine their's some kids interested (with some potential upside).

all good?

"Finally comes the DT. Michigan's needs are filled - aside from at least one wideout - and can focus on just taking top-top prospects for the remainder of the class, regardless of position."

So we feel comfortable at RB?

sure

Sure, we've seen commits leave institutions in the before, but if there's any question about a kids intention, then the entire class and school should be under the microscope. It's always been the Michigan way of not only finding quality players, but quality people. Terry is a Michigan Man along with the rest of his class. I have a feeling that Terry and the 2012 class will make a big impact at the big house, which is what every commit wants a chance at.

awesome

"Brennen Beyer is a throwback to the Natural Way of Things in-state as established by Bo and Mo and Carr before the cliff Michigan recruiting went off."

Growing up in Plymouth, we all dreamed about playing football at the big house (as im sure many have). From pick up games before & after a Michigan victory, watching the goodyear blimp float its way to the stadium, to running back home in time to catch the Michigan marching band play "Hail to the Victors"! Its great to see another generation of athletes not have to think twice about playing for the greatest school in the nation.

Incredible Hoke!

With this being my first post, I have to add that I started reading the blog 3 weeks ago and cant get enough of it!

I loved his comment about Michigan not being in a rebuilding year. Michigan players, coaches, fanbase, and recruits expect the best...

No slam to RR, but it does take a coaching staff that brings more than the "X and O benefits"... which is why I think we are seeing a strong recruiting class and happier fan base in a short amount of time!

Call me crazy, I dont see anyone breaking his determination, I think he will have a successful year!
