Hopeful for a fantastic long weekend! Go Blue, Beat LSU!

If UCLA were to beat Oregon tonight (they're leading currently in Game 3), Michigan will go into the WCWS with a 13-0 record over 6 of the other 7 WCWS teams in this season and last season (Michigan and Auburn have not played). Of course, any game is dangerous because all the teams at this stage are very good, but, if nothing else, that 13-0 mark is an indication of how fantastic the last few years have been. This team has accomplished so much. I hope they can cap off all of their success with the game's biggest prize.

We faced a good pitcher for the third time this year. That won't happen again. The only time we'll face a team for a third time would be if we play Florida State, and even then, we lit them up twice on their own field back in March.

Also, the super regional is the hardest step in the tournament IMO. We only beat Georgia 7-6 last year in game 2.

Aside from 2009 when we faced unseeded Baylor, we have never had an easy super regional. We lost game 2 in 2005, in fact.

Agreed.  They were also 0-6 before the 7th innning with runners in scoring position.  Can't have that in OKC.  Need the 3-4-5-6 hitters to come through when SiLo and Romo get on base.  I wonder what Hutch will do with the DP spot since Canfield hasnt gotten a hit in the NCAA tournament yet.  Wonder if she sticks Vargas in there just to change things up

Something certainly happened.

She's only gotten in in blowout wins. Her last appearance was April 30th when we killed PSU.

Her last start was against CMU.

And this is a player who started the season at catcher and has 3 HR and almost 20 RBI.

I know both Vargas and Alexander have both gotten pinch hit grand slams.  But then again I believe these were blowout late inning ones fwiw.  I wouldn't mind Alexander or Vargas in the DP position for one game to see how they do.  Maybe giving Canfield a break will help her clear her mind and refocus.

The Michigan/LSU winner plays the Oklahoma/Alabama winner at 9:30 pm on Friday on ESPN2.  The Michigan/LSU loser plays the Oklahoma/Alabama loser at 2:30 pm on Saturday on ESPN.

Oregon has yet to do anything in any bracket sport in the postseason that should scare anyone.

Football, Basketball, Softball. They always choke.

Last year they were the #1 ranked team in the final poll before the tournament, not Florida. And they lost to UCLA in the world series.

They gave up a 7th inning homer to UCLA today in game 2 and would ultimately lose. Now they're in game 3 and losing to UCLA again.

They're a joke in football if you really think about it.

What the hell have they done?

They have all those whiz-bang uniformz, blank checks from Uncle Phil and they still can't win the big one.

They can't even win the medium one. They blew a 31-0 halftime lead in the Alamo Bowl and lost. 31-0!!! Against TCU who was without Boykin.

That is so idiotic.

You "don't respect Oregon at all" for "just" winning a bunch of conference titles (and when they don't win the PAC 12, being right there behind the winner) and Rose Bowls. Our best coach's legacy was literally built on winning or coming in second in his conference every year and some non-national championship bowl wins.

No, Oregon is not a traditional power. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't respect them. There are plenty of non-traditional powers that deserve a lot of respect. There are also plenty of traditional powers that have not deserved respect for a while now. Michigan, Tennessee, USC for the past few years, Penn State, Texas, etc.

Don't you see the difference? Oregon has done all that recently.

They had a whopping five Pacific titles prior to that year in 1994. Five.

Michigan had 21 conference titles prior to Bo. We won our fifth in 1904.

What does my respect mean? Not much. I'm just some guy. I'm just saying what I feel.

No, you clearly do not see the difference.

Whether a program has a long standing history is one thing. I'm saying that respect in the year 2016 should not be based on a bunch of titles from 50 to 100 years ago, or even 20 years ago.

They've beaten M in football the last two times they've played us. In Autzen they held on after we nearly closed the gap at the end, Braylon dropped a big one across the middle which might have put us on top.

And the week after the Horror they made us look downright awful on our own field. I was at both games, I still feel the losses.

While Harbaugh has excited the faithful and has us quite optimistic, we've got a ways to go to catch up w/the recent success of Oregon, Sparty, and that team from Columbus. Hopefully this Fall M can road show in EL and Ohio, get us in to the BIG Championship game (we haven't made it yet) and beyond.

Besides embarrass us 35-0 in the Big House in 2007?

They beat a FSU team by nearly 40 in a semifinal game.

Here's a fact: Oregon has played for 2 National Championships (2010 and 2014) since they humiliated us.

Here's another fact: Oregon has won at least 10 games every year from 2008 to 2014. And Oregon won at least 12 games in 4 of those 6 years.

Not bad for a nouveau riche...

This is one of the most childish posts I've read in some time.

Oregon has been performing at an elite level for quite some time, including a game in Ann Arbor when Dennis Dixon ripped us to pieces.

Cut out the hot takes.

Regardless of Oregon's chokiness, we match up better with UCLA. And we beat UCLA this year and last year. They don't have as strong pitching. The teams that scare me the most are those with absolute ace pitchers. Florida beat us with their pitching, not their bats last year.

True haha, but I mean Oregon still hasn't given up more than 2 runs in a game to UCLA. 1 run in Game 1, 2 in game 2 in nine innings, and 2 so far in this one (but one was unearned). And UCLA has led the country in batting average.

Oregon's pitching is still scarier than UCLA's in this Super Regional (Bruins gave up 8 runs last night), the Ducks' batters have just gone completely cold.

Too bad they are in the same bracket and meet in the elimination phase.

How does the double elimination work, as to when the loser goes to the other bracket?

UM would likely meet OK in the 2nd round, as 1st round winners.   Is it the loser of this game that changes brackets, meaning that they could meet again for the finals?

EDIT:  A bit of detective work to answer my own question.  Finally found last year's bracket as an example.

In short, the loser of a UM-OK game would switch brackets and play the winner of the matchup of the 1st round losers in that bracket.

They would then go on to play the winner of 1st round in that bracket for the right to go to the championship game.  So we could see the battle of the Romero sisters in the final.

Here's last year's bracket to see the example.

The good thing is that there isn't an ace in this field besides maybe Hawkins from Oregon and they might not even be there as they're losing to UCLA. Falk and Christner also seem to be swinging better this weekend. Hopefully we get something from the Canfield/Vargas position.

FWIW, LSU will bring the 5th best pitching ERA and solid hitting. Their Achilles heel is their poor defense (155th nationally) and tendency for mental breakdowns. Their one pitcher, Smith, has a sub-1.00 ERA, and she's overshadowed by their go-to's Hoover and Walljasper

I prefer the convention whereby the higher seed plays earlier in Round 1, so as to have at least an extra couple of hours between game 1 and game 2 than their lower-seeded challenger. Basically: Why do we play the 9:30 game, rather than the 7:00 one? It would seem to be exactly the kind of faint disadvantage that the highest seed shouldn't have to deal with.
