the writing was on the wall

The writing was on the wall. Yes it sucked losing to Utah but it wasn't totally unanticipated. I mean seriously, why is everyone freaking out this badly? I don't care who the new coach was, but with all the players we lost and the amount of freshmen that we had to play, we were bound to be terrible this year. And on top of that we're in the BEGINNING of a huge transition to our program.

growing up in a2 and eventually graduating from UofM i am a full-fledged arrogant michigan fan. i think we should win every game. By a lot. But while i wasn't expecting a loss that abysmal to Utah I wasn't exactly expecting a win. So yes, I understand that we're Michigan fans and we're better than everyone else and should win every game but chill out. WE WILL SUCK THIS YEAR. Actually, WE WILL SUCK BALLS.

But with that in mind, we will be good. Just not now. And as for the michigan media blasting rodriguez. that's bullshit. he's a great coach rebuilding a program with a lot of potential.

go blue.

I read someone else's post today sating that we kind of thought Rich Rod had some things up his sleeve and wasn't letting on everything he knew about the team and so we kind of expected a big, surprising win Saturday.  However, Rodriguez had concerns and those were valid.  Once I realized during the game that we really were not going to shock people, it was pretty easy to take.  I know I was talking a few fans around me off the ledge as we were leaving.

My take is that Michigan is not a good team right now, but they're better than they looked for a couple reasons.  1- They made mental mistakes that were more a product of young guys in their first game than just young guys in general.  What I mean is, they regressed quickly to the mental mistakes of the first days of camp.  They've been trained to get over those all camp and will get over them very quickly.  2- Utah is better than people think. Their well-executed spread offense caught M off balance and their defense was as good as we all feared.

Basically, I'm saying I agree.  Get off the ledge Michigan fans!  Sure, we're not that good, but 1. We're better than you think and 2. Things are going to get much much better in a couple of years.

I see freaking out are the LOLMSM who are paid to be hysterical.  I think it's pretty much the concensus here that what we saw was disappointing, but not unexpected.  It's disappointing because we knew the O-line would be a question mark, but a question mark is more encouraging than the knowledge that the guards suck.

It was also disappointing to see how the OLB and safeties played in the first half.  There was nothing terrible there, just first game jitters from new starters, but we couldn't afford those kinds of mistakes.

I think like most fans, I'm just too lethargic to write much about that game.   It's only those people who are really fired up who are grinding out diary and forum posts.  So that's why you're hearing some more negative slants.  I like how the reader pointed out to brian that: "PETE CARROL LOST TO UTAH IN HIS FIRST YEAR AT USC"  That turned out ok for them.
