Wrestling Results @ MSU
Closer then most thought, Some low spots and some good. In the end, Michigan was too tough.
Report Card vs MSU:
· Important for Seeding– D-. Boyle did nothing but open the door to dropping out of the top 5 in seeding getting pinned and B. Zeerip fell to an opponent with similar strength in resume. J. Zeerip didn’t wrestle in the dual, but, could have used a win over Jacobs in my mind.
- Momentum Gainers – B+. Huge win for Grajales. Osterman turned around and beat a top 10 opponent 2 days later to. Apland work his way to a win over a tough Rizqallah. He should win this, but, it’s a much needed win for him. Collins just didn’t have it.
- No Letdowns – A. Stevens rolled very easy. Biondo dominated the whole way and Yates took down an unknown.
#11 Michigan @ Michigan State
MSU was pretty hyped for this dual. They don’t want to let a clearly better Michigan team just walk in and dominate. Although Michigan showed they were just too much, they did let MSU off the hook with a little pride.
Bout by Bout
Dual Started at 149.
Michigan Wrestlers listed first:
- 149 – Eric Grajales(Fr) vs #20 Dan Osterman(So) Big win for Grajales. Osterman has put together a decent resume on the season and Grajales obliterated it for a major. UM-4 MSU-0
- 157 - Brandon Zeerip(Fr) vs Sean McMurray(Fr) McMurray exploded in the third to claim the match. Tough loss for Zeerip. UM-4 MSU-3
- 165 - Dan Yates(Fr) vs Nick Kaczanowski(Fr) Yates may not have scored a ton, but, he had control the whole match, accumulating over 4:00 riding time. UM-7 MSU-3
- 174 – #20 Justin Zeerip(Jr) vs Curran Jacobs(Jr) Zeerip didn’t go here, instead Aaron Hynes(Sr) bumped up 2 weights and lost in OT to Jacobs. UM-7 MSU6
- 184 – Hunter Collins(So) vs Ian Hinton(Jr) Hinton wore Collins down, pulling away late for an expected MSU win. MSU took the lead into the break. UM-7 MSU-9
- 197 - #11 Anthony Biondo(Sr) vs Tyler Dickenson(Jr) Biondo was favored and followed through with a decisive win, jumping Michigan back on top. UM-10 MSU-9
- 285 - #16 Ben Apland(So) vs Joe Rizqallah(So) orMike McClure(Fr) Rizqallah has pulled off some good matches and overachieved a bit. Apland needed to pick up a win for himself and gutted one out. Takedowns are his strength and that’s what won him this one. UM-13 MSU-9
- 125 – Sean Boyle(So) vsEric Olanowski(Jr). Just as UM was putting MSU to bed, Olanowski put a charge in the Spartans getting the upset over Boyle by the ole cement job pin. Again, a tough win for Boyle. UM-13 MSU-15
- 133 -Zac Stevens(Jr) vs Chris Lyon(Fr) Back to back weak spots for MSU to close the dual. Stevens hammered away at this one, putting on a take down clinic for the tech. UM-18 MSU-15
- 141 - #1 Kellen Russell(Jr) vs Levi Stace(Fr) No chance for MSU with Stace. Russell put him down in :48, securing the dual win. UM-24 MSU-15
Final Team Score Prediction: Michigan-24 MSU-9
Final Dual Score: Michigan-24 MSU-15
Dual season over and off to Big Ten’s. Mixed feelings coming out, but, the focus level is about to get revved up a notch.
Michigan finishes 5thin the Big Ten dual standings, with their 3 losses coming to the top 3 finishers and beating the forth place Wildcats (who got off not having to face Penn State or Minnesota). A side note, the MSU dual did not count as part of the Big Ten standings for Michigan and was classified an out of conference dual.

I believe those standings show them to be good at being violently thrown to the ground.

Good call, that's what I meant. Need more coffee.

Any day Michigan crushes their rivals and pins them helplessly to the ground is a good day.
