Wrestlemania 31

Submitted by Half Blood Dut… on

Wrestlemania tonight could be one of the best in recent memory. Anyone else watching it tonight? This is also my first forum topic post. Just wanted it to be short and sweet.

This is the one day of the year that I watch wrestling.  I just found out Macho Man got into the hall.  It's about damn time.  Hopefully the crowd will be hot.  I don't remember any previous Wrestlemania's that were in California beside the infamous Wrestlemania 9.

Beat me to it!

Yeah, not sure how this card will shake out, but if the crowd is hot this could be a decent event especially the ladder IC title match, the Taker-Wyatt confrontation, and Lesnar vs. Reigns.  Lesnar resigning with the WWE makes it way more intriguing a main event, and it could get interesting depending on what they do with Seth Rollins and his MiTB briefcase.

Best in recent memory?!

This thing is going to blow goats. So many missed opportunities and so many predictable matches.

WWE logic: the guy they pushed and gave the world title to last year is fighting for the midcard title a year later.

This thing will be hot garbage. Raw tomorrow is going to a hoot when they boo everything and everyone after this stinker when Roman predictably wins.

Reigns was out for 3 months with a hernia surgery.  And Bryan's injury, while serious, isn't anything worse than what a half-dozen other guys have dealt with.  Michaels had a terrible back for years, Lesnar has had to deal with diverticulitis, Stone Cold had a broken neck, etc.  The reason they don't want to give the title to Bryan, at least right now, is because he doesn't look the part and, in very limited sampling, didn't draw incredibly well on the couple of PPVs he was on.  But nothing has been shown that anyone else on the roster except Lesnar or Cena can draw either.

I want to see Lesnar win, Reigns hit him with a low blow from behind followed by a Superman punch and Rollins cashing in.  Then, Reigns, Rollins and Heyman walk out in a victory formation.  Reigns turns heel and Lesnar turns into a pissed off face.

Anyone else impulse buy WWE network just for tonight?

Also, these guys don't get the props they deserve as performers. People like to complain about it being scripted, but for them to stay in shape, portray a  cool gimmick, deliver lines convincingly, sometimes (sorry Reigns), and execute an entire fight choreography in one take, the whole thing is quite an impressive production when one thinks about it.

Nice. I was hoping for a WM thread. I shall be watching it. I was also hoping Damian won the battle royale, but in true predictable fashion, Big Show won.

I tune in to wrestling now and then, and I just find the guys of today to be with a few exceptions (Lesnar) to be vastly inferior to past WWE stars. There are no Hogan's, no Austin's, sure as hell no Rock's, No Undertakers no Savages and on and on. I find the guys WWE is pushing lately to be small, with small personalities IMO anyway.

Well, to counter you are naming 5 guys who are probably the biggest names in the modern history of the wrestling (throw Andre and Flair in and that's basically THE list).  But as someone whose watched pretty much since the late 80s/early 90s, there have been a number of fallow periods where stars of today would have been huge.

Cena is a legit star on the level with any of the other guys listed - he can talk, he looks great, connects with young and older fans to different degrees, and has some cross-over appeal.  Punk had huge credibility with smart fans and has had some decent crossover - the fact it matters a 40-something guy with no fight experience went to UFC proves that.  They are looking for similar stars, and the booking/storytelling has been lacking for years now, but it's not like the the guys of today are inferior to the vast majority of WWF/E/WCW talent in the past 20 years.

But most of those guys I listed all worked at the same time--its not like this is the Ruth, Cobb Mantle listing over 80 years. And now that they are gone, I for one aren't as interested in the new guys I see. Punk was interesting but hard for me to really get behind, Cena I agree on though. I just don't get the love for guys like Reigns and others like Daniel Bryan, who are supposed to be the biggest stars there. Triple H is still better than IMO all but Lesnar, and he's a holdover. Even Brett Hart, who was a top level but not really the highest level guy, IMO was way better than almost everyone there now. Oh well I'll go look at my lawn now.

Daniel Bryan (Or a Shamus run in costing him the title)
Bella Twins
Triple H
Undertaker
Cena (Lock of the night)
Seth Rollins
Roman Reigns (Vince is just to predictable, and they've been pushing Reigns way too hard to divert now. Although I'm pulling for a Brock win, or at least a Seth Rollins cash in.)

They are dying for Rousey to get in the ring for the WWE.  I suspect she will in a couple years once she "ages" out of UFC's top women's spot.

This Tripel H entrance is pretty silly - not going to lie.  I think a lot of it is due to the lighting and the time of day, but just a bit silly.
