Wolverine 2016 NCAA Wrestling All Americans

Michigan had 7 wrestlers qualify for the NCAA tournament and 2 have made it into the Semi-finals and earned All American status.  They both wrestle the #1 seed in the semi final match tonight. 

Now a 2x NCAA All-American! Way to go, Adam Coon. #Cooooooonnnnnn #WrestleNYC #GoBlue

Wolverines wrap up this morning's sessions. 2 in the semis, 3 in the Round of 12. Team sits in 8th place.

 

Semi Finals tonight > Coon (285) and Pantaleo (149)

Still alive in round of 12 > Youtsey (125), Abounader (184), and Murphy(157)

Penn State is going to run away with the team race. Both Pantaleo and Coon have the favorites in their respective weight classes in the semis. 

Youtsey(125), Murphy(157) and Abounader(184) are all in wrestlebacks tonight fighting for AA status (top 8).

Overall, unseeded Youtsey has wrestled very well. Slightly disappointing finishes from unseeded Bruno (133) and 10th-seeded Huntley (197), but everyone else has performed at a high-level.

I'm very disappointed in Bruno. The last month he hasn't been offensive at all. Couldn't get a takedown. Earlier in the year he was much better. And last year he was tough as nails getting to that AA match.

Huntley slowed down as well at the end of the year. Was getting beat soundly by guys he should probably beat. The 4 stall calls, he was lying flag on the mat not moving. Not sure what happened there.

Abounader is a strange one. I think he's over confident in his riding ability and his takedowns have suffered. He's not going for any or getting any. That's why he got beat in OT and barely survived the last match in 2OT. He has Iowa's #2 seed in the blood round. He better be on his game or Brooks will beat him up.

I think both Murphy and Youtsey can get it done. They're wrestling extremely well. Just need to bring it.

I was waiting for someone to post about this, since I don't have enough points to create one!!

Coon is wrestling the 2x defending National Champion from NC State.  They met last year in the finals and it was a close match.   Coon has really improved his take down's this year, but he is still very Greco oriented and the NCST has a great low single.  Will be very tough for him.

Alec has looked great and finished his last match with a dominate pin victory.

Most dissapointing is Max, the 6th year senior.  I sense he was seriously hurt because in his last match he basically didn't wrestling, got hit with 4 (yes that is correct) stalling points so the match was forfeited in the second period.

Coon's first win in 4 meetings vs Walz. He'll take 3rd place at Hwt. HUGE bonus points in our final bout. #WrestleNYC #GoBlue ...Coon's pin puts Michigan in 9th place in the team standings. Penn St way out in front of everyone else.
