Who is considered the Best NFL qb of all time? By Most 'experts'?

Yes, Tom Brady. Why? Does he have the biggest arm like Elway or Rodgers? Does he throw the best long ball like a Bradshaw? Does he scramble as well as Vick Cunningham or run as well as Newton?

No. What makes him great is he is accurate. He does the simple things well. The stuff that doesn't really wow people. He makes the 3rd and 10 throw. He throws the accurate screen pass. He throws the sideline passes well. The back shoulder fade. The slant. Go watch some of his throws against the Dolphins to Antonio Brown. One pass to the sideline. One pass over the middle. One pass to the back shoulder for the TD.

The basic stuff. Tell me, when is the last time you saw the basic pass routes consistently completed. Probably Rudock. Before that? It wasn't Speight recently. It's the simple pass plays that move the chains. The simple underneath pass outside the hashmarks and inside the marks that moves an offense.

Peyton Manning was a great at it. Aikman. You don't have to be Mahomes or Rodgers or Elway and sling it down the field. When was the last time UM for a National Title? 97 with a basic passing game by Griese.

Not saying there aren't other issues on defense or the OL but a good qb gets the job done. Put Purdue Brees on this team and it's a UM win with these wr's. You don't need great ones either. Todd Collins would get it done.

Harbaugh has clearly failed in developing a qb. It's the biggest reason for the UM struggles in my opinion and that is saying something with Don Brown as the DC.

Recognizing where to go with the ball before the snap is what separates the elite QBs from the rest. None of ours can do it and our system isn’t set up to make those decisions easy for them.

Maybe after a full year install it will be different.

Thank You and I was debating going back to edit OP. Look, playing qb is about figuring out where the safeties are playing and manipulating them. Understanding the down and distance. It's 2nd and 7 or 8. The point is to move the chains.

2nd down. Where is my TE and can he get open. Does he know the soft spot. Do I need to step up in the pocket or release the ball quick. You convert the pass or go the slant or swing out the pass then you can get the 1st down or put yourself in 3rd and short.

It's the basic stuff. You use the whole field. You put yourself into effective play action pass plays. The first drive is a classic example of what I am talking about. This first drive was perfectly fine.

They get sort of a fluky big gain by Bell. Down in the red zone and they throw on 1st down when Wisconsin is expecting a run. Great play call. What happens? Patterson throws a wild ball high. A missed opportunity to tie up the game. Yes, they fumbled next but they were being stopped for a 3 yard gain.

You see, it would have become a 3 pt drive which is the difference between winning and losing. It's the simple stuff that determines these games. Coach Harbaugh talked about execution but it's not very good.

Wisconsin is always converting 3rd and shorts. They are always putting themselves into these positions because they do the simple stuff well. They have almost the same strategy as the Patriots. Either run it or throw it short and get into favorable down and distance. You can play the Aaron Rodgers/Favre type style but UM doesn't have that guy. The one who scrambles and slings it effectively.

UM offense reminds me a little of Dave Kingman (baseball player) who would hit a homerun and strike out 4 times in a game. The offense always shoots itself in the foot on every drive which is a reflection of an inconsistent qb.

Let me put it another way. When was the last NFL qb for UM besides Rudock? Henne? What was the best recent era for MSU football? Cousins right and is he overly talented. No, just makes the simple accurate pass when he was in college.

The game today was lost in the trenches.  They pushed us off the line all afternoon when they were on offensive and our offensive line was a sieve.  Missed assignments led to big plays.  Tom Brady would have struggled if were still wearing #10 today.

Toms arm is severely underrated I think due to being drafted in the 6th not being the son of Archie and the Patriots were a defense first ball control team early on.

2nd year player didn’t have the playbook ?...and drew bledsoe had one of the strongest arms ever in the league...accuracy not so much but good enough....again toms arm is everything that Peyton’s was and certainly more than Brees would love to see what his stats would be if he played in a dome his entire career instead of swirling New England falls outdoors.
