Another slow week.  No recruit commits.  Wait.  What. No. Really.  Football AND Basketball?  Oh, transfers, but they count too, right?  JH(s) CAN recruit.

Back by popular demand, (well, honestly there was only 1 person, and he's family) So, everyone did very good on the Great Bob Ufer.

Came to Michigan in 1939.  Played football during his freshman season.  Directed his efforts to Track & Field, a sport that better CateRed to his size and speed.  Broke eight, (That’s 8) Michigan varsity records.  Achieved All American status and set the World Record in the 440-yard dash, a mark that would stand for five (That’s 5) years.

1945 Bob entered the radio booth.  For the next four (That’s 4) decades Michigan fans heard the voice that would inform, enlighten, and entertain them.

“We’re down in the snake pit at ohio state and our Maize’ n Blue dobbers are high right now cuz we’re getting ready to do battle with Dr. StrangeHayes and his scarlet and gray legions”.   45 - 23

Elephants and Ufer never forget.

God bless your cotton picken maize and blue heart, Bob.

On a side note: I propose a change to the Michigan Stadium's name.  Now, before you get your panties in a bunch, here me out.  It's only for the Thanksgiving Saturday.  It's only for every other odd year.  It's only for 3 hours on that given Saturday.  (Better make that 4 hours, commercials).  The name would be temporarily changed to: "The Nutkracker House".  Do I have a second?

Here is your high school stats on today's WAINOT: (No more easy lollipop, slow pitch softball right down the middle of the plate questions).  This one should be hard.  (If you are from this athletes home town, and were aware of his playing days, don't spoil it for others).

He completed 55 of 161 passes for 999 yards and 14 passing touchdowns. Set the school record for passing touchdowns in a season in _____ with 10 and also holds the school record for most career touchdowns with 45.

He had 276 carries for 2,177 yards (Just under 8 yards per carry) and 30 rushing touchdowns during his career.

He was named to the All-State first team and was also named an All-American by ______ and was the top rated player in the state of _____ by_________.  He also played four years of baseball and three years of basketball in high school.

You all are in the wrong era.  This is the greatest Wolverine of them all (at least until Chuck Woodson arrived 55 years later).

Brian once described watching this guy play as “dropping a top 50 ranked 4 star down on a bunch of 1930s dudes”.
