What remaining recruits do we have a realsitic shot with?

Submitted by MinorforPresident on
So of the players still on the board who do we have realistic shots with? I know we're in Reuben Randle's 5 but do we have any shot? And if we did land him would we consider him at QB, the position he's playing right now in high school? I know we're also still chasing Campbell for his re-commitment and players such as Jenkins, Bond, Denard Robinson, Emilien, etc. Anyone have any good in depth knowledge of what we could be looking at? Thanks in advance.

It's never easy to put odds or percentages on things, but I'll try.

Randle: somewhere between 0 and 2%. He might not be the LSU lock everyone (including me) thought he was, but if he doesn't go there, he'll go to Bama. And I doubt he'd be a QB. He only plays QB for his HS because he's their best player by far and they want their playmaker to touch it every play.

Campbell: 95%. It says a lot when USC doesn't think they can land a kid.

Jenkins: 6.666...7%, AKA 1 in 15. There's really no way to put a comfortable number on it when he's keeping it so close to the vest.

Bond: Not gonna happen. To pull him, we needed to be his clear #1 coming out of his visit. Didn't happen. Same with Willie Haulstead.

Denard Robinson: Still trying to get him in for a visit. Can't comment on M's chances until that happens.

Josh Robinson: It's been thought that he'd be tough to pull out of Florida, but after his visit, Michigan is right there. They impressed him, but whether it was actually enough remains to be seen.

Emilien: This is one everybody seems to be cautiously optimistic about. He loved his visit, and at the moment it seems like we're his #1. All that's left now is withstanding his visit to Ohio State...

I'm only going to talk about the kids that anyone thinks we have a shot at, so if they're not on here, we're not geting him. Some I've listed info about, some I haven't.

Taylor Lewan - Scheduled visit for Northwestern game, and teammate of Craig Roh. We look good so far.

Chris Freeman - I've heard he really liked his visit, and we have some Trotwood kids

Quinton Washington - Had good things to say, but not sure.

Travis Bond - Despite other people reporting we're not his number one, I've spoken with numerous recruits that have said he really liked the visit, and to watch out for him. Still not sure though, he still has other visits left.

Willie Haulstead - Still committed to FSU, but again numerous recruits have told me they're working on him, and that he likes Michigan, and his visit.

Vlad Emilien - He has me the most confused of anyone. I think we're number one right now, and that the OSU issue is merely a pride thing, but I could be wrong. I think we'll get him, but I'm confused about him for some reason.

Josh Robinson - I can't read him either, but he has said he wants to stay in state, but he will go out of state if that's what's best. He also said that Michigan has everything to get him out. Meh.

William Campbell - Everyone thinks he's coming back to Michigan, but he has an ego, and LSU has some sort of snake oil of their own. I'm optimistic, but scared at the same time. It seems like the Cass Tech kids, and the Detroit Southeastern at some point took their trash talking to Michigan against Michigan State. Mainly Will Gholston, which is not a good sign for him for the future.

Jelani Jenkins - He hasn't narrowed his list down enough, but I really think that his dad likes Michigan. His dad seems to have a lot of influence, and he wants Jelani to get a good education.

Mywan Jackson - Scheduled visit for November 15th, I believe with one of his teammates, Angelo Hadley. We are in the top 4, and the last of his visits.

Donavan Tate - He's hard to read, he still has a pretty decent list that Michigan is on. But, I've also heard he could be a top 10 draft pick this year for MLB. Not sure what he's decided.

Jason Ankrah - With his teammate, Travis Hawkins, going to Maryland, he might too. I personally think if he was going to Penn State he already would've done it, it might be a pride thing though. I think he ends up at Penn or Maryland.

Tavon Austin - We're not getting him

Hawatha Bell - Not talked about very much, but a LB prospect. We're in good position so far.

Branden Smith - We're on his list, but so is about 20 other schools. Not likely.

Tajh Boyd - Quietly committed to Tennessee today.

That's all I can think of for now, and I'm tired, so if I think of more I'll tell you.

Oh yea, I just spoke with Dewayne Peace, and he's still thinking about what he wants to do with his commitment.

I appreciate the time and info from you both. I try to keep up with it all but obviously you have a lot more in depth info than us Tom. I truly hope we can get Big Will back and if any other of the guys listed - Jenkins. We could use a LB like that, especially with our current situation.

It's still too early to make predictions for Jelani. He's also hard to get a hold of. He has a lot of big names left on his board, but he seems like a smart kid. I'm kind of worried about him staying home in Maryland too. With Travis Hawkins signing up, if Jason Ankrah follows, they could have a trio of good defensive players. So we'll see. Will Campbell is staying pretty quiet right now too.

We're still technically on his board, I guess, but he's got three visits scheduled, and we're not one of them. So probably not likely. I thought I heard that LSU has a good chance. I'll find out for sure.

I forgot about Mike Marry too, a LB, he'll be visiting November 15th also.

So basically they may score Loston and Holloway who were both headed to Clemson before Bowden's departure. They never run short of grabbing good commits for the secondary. Thanks for the info on Marry, gonna watch some of his film. I am with you on Jones though, he doesn't do anything to wow me at all.

Well ya know, recruiting is a funny thing. No one ever thinks of how the coaches act when they think recruiting. But, Les Miles is a good salesman, and the product he's pitching is in demand. If you've ever listened to Les Miles speak, he seems very genuine, and engaging. Imagine yourself as an 18 year old kid, looking for a coach that can be a father figure, and someone you can look up to. Not only is their team good, but the coach does a good job of convincing kids why they're needed. I'm not an LSU fan, I'm just using them as the example, there's plenty of other coaches and schools just like that. But that's a lot of why they're reaping these benefits.
