What if Casteel becomes available?

Submitted by mGrowOld on

To the surprise of absolutely no one outside of Morgantown it's looking more and more like the Uncle Opie experiment  is failing badly which could lead to Casteel becoming available at the end of the season.  Does RichRod go get him?  He allegedly turned it down the DC initially because he didn't want to uproot his family plus he had a job but if Stewart gets smoked as expected that will probably not be the case anymore. And it would surprise me at least to see West Virginia stay inside the Rodriguez family tree and promote Casteel despite their defense being ranked 7th in the nation going into last night's game.  I'm not a Gerg hater by any means (the man doesn't exactly have the 86 Bears personnel to work with) but if Casteel became available at the end of the season I think Rich would try and get him.

What do you guys think?

Can anyone tell me why its a good idea to play 3 down lineman in the big ten. While in the process taking arguably your best defensive player (roh) and playing him out of position. Really baffles me.

From what I've read, I'm pretty sure RR would take him in a heartbeat. Just an opinion, obv. But I wouldn't fault RR at all for hiring Casteel; it's who he's always wanted., and I think for good reason. I'm sorry that I'm not offering cogent analysis here, but, honestly, i'm fucking drunk already for the UM-PSU game. Go Blue.

I usually recipe post threads that speculate on replacing Gerg, but...oooh, the poster is so seductive in laying out how this might happen.  I gotta admit, I'd be tempted to take a guy who has FAR more experience running a 3-3-5 scheme and we already know Casteel and RichRod have good chemistry and yeah that transition would be pretty smooth and...

NO.  I WILL NOT BE TEMPTED.  GERG'S HAIR IS FANTASTIC I WILL NEVER LET HIM GO.

problem is, even if RR can bring Casteel in, the revolving door probably will continue. At the level he's coaching, Casteel maybe hangs on a year or 2 before getting lured away to a HC job. In other words, he's not a long-term solution, IMO.
